Guys,

What I believe to be an ANPR van (Police van with 2 cameras facing out the back of the van) was there today, actually 1 on both carriageways.

I was maybe going slightly faster than 70 miles an hour and I completely accept any penalty that might come my way.

My question is: Can the ANPR van clock your speed and take a pic?

If it can then I guess I wait for the envelope in the post :-(

Cheers
Kev

Not an expert by any stretch of the imagination but dont think they can. The system they have is purely for reading numberplates as far as I am aware (and then checking with the DVLA database)

Reckon you will be fine, the police would prob have pulled you over at the time if they were going to do you.

hope it is only an ANPR van as that can be one fast stretch of road with sweeping bends, never seen a 'car' on it yet

That is a good piece of road, Safe and fast when clear but there is normally heavy traffic on there so speeds are pretty average. There are somenasty prangs sometimes but it is normally people trying to cycle on it. There is no hard shoulder on there and it really should be made a motorway.

You should be ok as the main purpose of ANPR is to id vehicles of interest, stolen, no tax/insurance or no seatbelts. They run so many checks that speed is not a concern, it takes a second or so to run the check and then there are a patrol further up the road to pull you if they have something to stop you for.

Sussex Police have just spent 500k on new ANPR kit so will see a lot more around!
