Alarm/Immobiliser question

Hope to be getting my first Griff in the next few weeks but insurance quotes I've had so far all insist upon the car having a Cat 1 Alarm/Immobiliser and I'd have to provide evidence to support this before the insurance would be valid.
Never having owned one before I'm unsure about the standard of the system that comes with the car, is this up to the job and will insurance companies accept it? Alternatively would I need to have a new system fitted and if so any recommendations?

You might have problems if the car has one of the older types of Alarm (e.g. Foxguard), as there are no available dealers to give you proof. I tried this. The only way is to go with a company who recognise the factory fitted alarms (e.g. Mannings, Sunninghill). The alternative is to get a new alarm. Later alarm models (i.e. post 1996) might not present this problem.
The new edition of the bible has the official TVR letter defining the Meta alarm system that is fitted as standard on cars from 1996 reproduced in it.
Earlier cars can be covered by getting an alarm inspection report/certificate. Costs about 10-20 pnds.

Whatever you say Steve, but I tried doing this and after phoning about 10 alarm places found that noone would touch a Foxguard with a bargepole. Maybe you know someone in the trade who would do it, but I don't and found it slightly tricky.
You might want to try Sunninghill anyway, as Prince Charming suggests - they were the cheapest quote I got, and were fine about alarm/immobiliser issues. Mine is a Thatcham Cat 1 but doesn't appear on their current list - www.thatcham.org/ - go for 'security' and go to page 16 for a complete listing of Cat 1 & 2 systems including those which have been deleted. There was a thread here (but I can't find it now) where someone kindly explained why deleted systems were still OK - doesn't mean they're no good, just no longer supported or something. I'm sure someone else can give an accurate explanation.

So my 99 Griff has a meta system. Good info to have, I'm just ringing up getting insurance quotes. Currently with Direct Line but saw some postings here that said Tesco were very good. Not for me - some £100 more.
Any other companies I should try like Sunninghills? It is my only car and I do under 10,000 per year.
My 99 Griff has a FF Meta and i was absolutely gobsmacked how easy it was to override the immobiliser. I had to by-pass it as i want to drive the car until i can decide which way to go. It cut in mid overtake on a country road!! Really quite scary.It has given warnings before, like not allowing me to start. I always though they had to be in lead lined boxes with colourless wiring.
