I saw somewhere that GM intends to re-introduce the Opel brand to the Uk.
I have to ask, "why?"

If I recall, the old Opels were exactly the same as Vauxhalls which was why they were discontinued over here in the first place.

Are there any Opel cars that are unique to that brand does anyone know?

I could be wrong but I do not think Vauxhall design & manufacture any cars in the UK, they use mainly German designs (Opel) and the UK imports various GM components around Europe & assemble in UK. My last Vauxhall Omega was allways an Opel to start with.

Most obvious reason would be a rebranding exercise to gradually phase out the Vauxhall name and replace it with the Opel brand that is used across Europe. In these days where they have gone to such lengths as removing hydraulic arms from Vectra bonnets and gone back to the manual supports to reduce costs the current rebranding as "Vauxhall" must be an area they could cut costs further.

IF it does, it will be on the the left hand drive only rebadged Pontiac Solstice.(2 seat roadster)

It is coming to Europe and may come to the UK in limited numbers.

Well I have to anwser this one

We build 100,000 Astra 5dr/Estate/Astravans up in Ellesemere Port
We also build 90,000 Vivaro/Trafic vans at IBC in Luton
We used to build Cavalier/Vectra (80,000 ish) but that all moved to Ruesselsheim in Germany - sad day.

At the moment the best selling brand in General Motors Europe is Vauxhall (vs Opel Germany , Opel Spain etc etc) Vauxhall also has the highest market share of any GME country.

A case of if it ain;t broke. Cost of converting to Opel is often discussed , likewise benefit to the overall brand by going solus Opel. Mind you we also talk about all going LHD like most of the globe to

As Brian mentions we are looking at the Opel GT in LHD form for the UK but thats still tba.
