There is a problem with the central locking on my wifes Mini 1.

The passenger door locks ok with the central locking but will not unlock (we have to unlock it using the interior door handle).

Does anyone have any suggestions of what the problem may be?

Thanks, Andrew.

Since I posted the above, the electric window on the passenger door has stopped working (doesn't open), now the central locking on the drivers door has stopped (doesn't unlock) so we have to use the key to get in. It appears that individual items have failed - if it was a failure of the control module I would expect all locks/windows to fail at the same time. Also, both doors lock OK with the central locking.

For replacement parts I've been quoted £46.39 each for the door locks, and £52.77 for a window motor, all plus VAT.

Does anyone know where I can buy replacement parts at a lower price than shown above?

I'm fairly unimpressed with the reliability of this car, I'd say it's more Rover than BMW. I hope the new model is better because we are considering trading up to a new Cooper.

Sorry to hear about the problems you are having with the central locking. Had something similar happen to my 52 plate MCS last year. Turns out a module had gone somewhere that controlled the whole lot, central locking, windows and alarm. The dealer reckons it is a common problem due to water ingress. Have you tried the mini2.com forums? The guys over there are normally really good with stuff like this. Hope you get it sorted soon.

Thanks gonzales, I'll have a look at the mini2 forums. The control module you mentioned costs about £190 plus VAT plus fitting, but I was told by a Mini garage that it is unlikely to be that as everything would have failed at the same time.

If you have a spare remote try that one,if not the key remote may have lost its reference or its failed.

I can't help with your question 'dell', but seeing this topic again reminded me that I should post the conclusion to the problem I had.

I replaced the passenger and drivers side lock mechanisms and the central locking was back to normal. In replacing the lock mechanism the passenger side electric window problem was also solved - either that was due to an electrical problem, linked to the door lock, or it was partially seized and I freed it up.
