I'm defecting to Xbox. Looks like you can pick up a Premium 360 for half that on Ebay.

...and by all accounts, they are still as temperamental as ever Shame MS haven't pulled their socks up and sorted out the issues with them crashing, locking up, overheating, etc. If they had, then I think Sony would have more reason to worry, but until then, there's still market share to be taken. Mind you, the Wii might just take some of that

But this is MICROSOFT. They've had God knows how many years to make Windows stable, on ever increasingly powerful platforms yet they have still successfully managed to avoid creating a workstation OS that can be used on a daily basis without regular rebooting. Imagine having to reboot your TV half way though a film, or the final of the World Cup?

I guarantee that PS3 will also go through some pain before it's stable. PS2 certainly did.

Me neither... reboot during software installs, but that's about it.

One of the PC's at home is running MCE and DOES record my telly... no problems there...

Are people really willing to pay that amount for a games console, and then pay around £50 per game?

And lots of people bought 360's on release and didn't either. One swallow doesn't make a summer chap.

I bought a 360 and so did 6 of my mates. None of us has had a single problem and neither have any of the randoms on my friends list.

I think that Sony may have missed the ball with this, the machine is going to have to be absolutely amazing to steal sales from something that costs half as much.

I think you're right, it is expensive compared to what else is on offer, for, I assume, not much graphical lovliness gain! Also, a lot of 'gamers' would by now already have a half decent PC - if they want the new games (Medievil 2, Half Life 2 add-one etc), then quite frankly, they can pick up a very very decent GPU card for less than half the cost of the PS3!
As the UK, and Europe arn't spending at all on the moment regarding consumer goods, like they used to, I think Sony are going to find that the price is a tad unrealistic!

Could be wrong though,,,,,

Plus PS3 is gambling on blu-ray.

I think Sony hope the PS3 will be THE reason that blu-ray enters our households (like the PS2 bringing DVD to the masses).

Bollocks to £425. I'm getting me an XBOX. Mates got one and never had any problems with it.

I doubt Blueray is all its cracked up to be.

Don't forget the extra cost of an HD-DVD player if you decide to go X-Box instead of PS3.

But whats the point?

All the Xbox 360 and PS3 offer at the moment is the same games with fancy graphics.

OK, the online part should be improved but thats about it IMHO

Maybe but those graphics make a massive difference. Try playing PGR2 then switch to PGR3 on a HDTV and see if you ever want to go back. Also Oblivion is not available on Xbox. This game in itself is worth buying a 360 for IMO. I'm nearly 100 hours in and have hardly scratched the surface. Great value !

Don't downplay the 360's online capability or the new dash. The way it all gels together is really superb.

I see your point but I've found myself bored with the current crop of games, nothing new really seems to be coming along? The last big push IMO was when Live came out for the Xbox, it gave all the games so much more depth and playability.

Nice graphics true, but not worth the asking price at the moment IMO.
