try another dealer.
the rattle should be fixed under warranty, mine was anyway.
The brakes were also replaced but my car was under a year old at the time was was covered my the comprehensive warranty rather than the shitty 2nd and 3rd year warranty.

The brake disks are probbably warped.

Is the noise more of a drumming noise that builds up after 10 seconds or so of idling?

If so, it's an easy and well know fix

replace the crank pulley, belt and tensioner, it'll be fine then.

Did you buy it new or used?

Brake friction materials aren't covered after the initial 12 month period, and they wouldn't have been covered under warranty if the cause was corrosion from excessive standing as it's not a manfacturing defect. It would be squarely on the door step of the dealer for releasing the vehicle with "iffy" brakes.

Sorry to hear of your accident - glad to hear you're fine, if shaken up a bit.
Goes to show the statistics were correct in portraying the Fiesta as the most crashed car. Unbelievable! Bet you'd laugh if you weren't depressed about the state of the P&J.
Here's hoping the insurance companies don't faff around too long before getting you into something similar.
Maybe now's the time to see how a new (06) Honda Accord feels?

One would imagine that she doesn't have a leg to stand on re: her fault, she went past a queue of cars and into a hedge, not your fault, whether or not she remembers anything.

Hope the maindealer can manage to do a decent job second time round, somehow I doubt it. Bought a car from them, was clocked and sh!t. Used to service my next car a got it completely wrong.

Main dealer where I now live (York) scratched the car whilst servicing it, then took THREE attempts to paint it, during which time they managed to paint the rear seats on the inside of the car, can you believe it.

Also too umpteen attempts to not fix a nasty vibration which appeared whilst they serviced it, and miraculously disappeared after the 97th diagnosis and alledgedly not changing any parts

Needless to say, never went near them again and would never touch any main dealer, never hear anything good about them.

Rant over - glad you not hurt.

As soon as anyone hears £7K damage repair, they'll walk away from it or offer you crap money irrespective of age and mileage.
IOW, the residual will be severely affected, so I'd be asking the loss adjuster (inspector) to consider it a write-off for you.

the point the dealer is making is they will replace everything so the car is back to A1 condition even to the exstent of changing both sidea of the front brakes even though one is only damaged ,they tell me that the repair will be so good that i will not be able to tell the differance !!!!,there is know way i can tell the insurance company to right it off so i guess i have no choice but to go with them and hope they get it right ,inspector is having a look tuesday so will just have to wait !!! simon

Sorry to rake up ancient history but I've only been a member of this forum for about two minutes.

I have recently bought a 55 plate Mondeo TDCi auto and I think I've got the same problem with the belt/pulley. The car's still under warranty and I also live in Peterborough.

This rattle / resonance is the only blemish on an otherwise perfect car.

All the best

Tony
