Wiesmann to win design award?

Top industrial design nomination for GT

Wiesmann GT Coupe

The Wiesmann GT has been nominated by the Rat der Formgebung (Germany's Industrial Design Council) for the highest German design award. The prize is given by the German Ministry of Economy and Technology on behalf of the Federal Republic. The Rat für Formgebung runs the voting and the prize-giving ceremony.

If the GT wins, it'll be the stonking sports car's second award: it recently won the “red dot design award” for good industrial design. On 28 September, an international jury will meet in Frankfurt to select the winners in the individual categories.

Technical director Martin Wiesmann, who said: ”We feel very honoured having been nominated for this great design prize. Obviously experts discovered the attractiveness of our car and recommended the Rat für Formgebung its participation on this competition.”

Wiesmann said that the nomination was an endorsement of the company's philosophy of building sports cars -- to synthesise classic design and state-of-the-art technology to create pure sports cars. The results are the Wiesmann Roadster and GT.

Wiesmann said: "My opinion is that the basic design must be created by one person because too many cooks spoil the broth. With my brother Friedhelm (managing director of the company), I share the opinion that our car must have a classic design because the automobile history shows that these shapes last long without becoming out of date.

"Long-lasting model cycles are compulsory for our small manufacturing company out of economical reasons. We simply do not have the money to develop new shapes every four or five years and throw the old ones away. Instead we invest all our effort in the technological improvement of our cars for the sake of our customers."

I was at the Monaco car show last year and they were giving rides in their demonstrator around the F1 circuit...awesome....and sounds great in the tunnel. Also, you get a lot more attention than your run of the mill fezza or porka!!!

And one untalented designer who borrows styling cues from other designers.

A bit harsh.. Surely very little design can be deemed totally original where cars are concerned

These really are terribly kitsch in the flesh - sort of like a modern day excalibur!

All in the worst possible taste.

well, that 500st car the roadster in those colors is not realy my taste...but as you can read in all those years only 500 are made yet, so wiesmann is very exclusive!
The roadster's still have the iron chassis frame...
So the GT is my dreamcar, a wonderfull well made exclusive machine/car, and with the upcoming special maybe 500+hp engine in it...I realy realy want one! and keep that for many years to come! its a great allrounder me thinks and exclusive and I like it a lot!
I've had over 100 cars! in my car live and this one realy hits me! much more then a ferrari or sort likes(though I also like drive's in those )
Ow, did I say I realy like it

After visiting Top Marques last month & seeing it on the road over there it is for me the most desireable car available, all down to personal taste I know but for me it blew away every other car regardless of price, performance

Yep, you have to see it, hear it, feel it to believe its a car you can be seen in year after year! its a nice friendly shape, but also sportieve and adorable?
I like it over Lambo's and Ferrari's and Porkers a Wiesmann does not shout it from the roofs, look here I am...or see me I've got a Ferrariii or Lambooooo
It says, you've got taste, style, trust...class(ic)
and still you have a monster in a GT V8(soon with at least 450hp engine!) its a Jeckel and Hide

yep, I agree...cracking car! As a point of interest, a few of the main board members at BMW in Munich (Munchen..whatever!) have Wiesmanns as personal cars, seeing as though the powerplant and most of the running gear are theirs

nope...(sadly because I could use the money for such car ) I also send wiesmann a link to this thread as I like those people a lot, they are friendly(normal people) and you can see all when you visit them! its like coming home or something like that, its a very fine atmosfhere, and the wiesmann bro's are very normal and also walking around there to welcome and show you around even when your not made a apointment as I discovered in 2005...
Also the open day was wonderful last time I've bin there for the third time now and when the next open day come I'll be there again

Fair play to them, but i think it looks like the dinner of a dog - the Morgan Aero is a much finer looking car.

Cheers,
Rob.

MMM. I am torn. The car, to me, looks like an XK 120, influenced by TVR. The Convertible is purer XK 120.

Is this any bad thing? mmm. On an aesthetic level it is not quite there for me. I need to drive it or see it (and hear it) race I suppose to see if it gives me any emotional response above ambivalence.

I like that it exists and the hard work that has gone into this car is evident , though I also can't afford one right now so perhaps it doesnt matter what I think
