I've started to look around for one of these for classic car events.

What are the key faults to watch out for?

Any views on prices and whether the 'S' is worth the premium?

I prefer the 2.4E.

More torque than the 'S' and very little difference in performance.

Either go for a basket case and start from scratch ...........or get one thats been done by someone totally reputable ............one things for sure restoration costs are the same for a 2 .7 rs as they are for a T .........there were very few late S [72/3] and these have been dragged along by the iconic rs increases. The S does however get very close to the rs in real terms and also has suspension, brakes and oil cooler that Neither the E OR T have ..........simply start with a reasonable car and enjoy it , rebuilding it and driving it, IMO the danger lies in a Forth Bridge project ,u get tot he end and start repainting all over again! ...............its easy to forget how much fun u can have on 6" of rubber............but then i am prejudiced! Mines used as a daily driver !

On the basis of RS prices,,the S almost looks like a bargain...assuming you buy a good one that doesn't need £000's spent to get it up to scratch.

Fair play to you Orange. Saw your 2.4 S up on the ramps at Steve's and that's one very nice 'daily'.

I'm on my second now, and have to say its worth driving a few before you buy - the characters are quite different, and its likely that they will have aged differently/been modified in some way by now.

My 2.4T/E is absolutely brilliant - really strong engine that has plenty of torque so instant response at any speed, and pretty quick too. I've slightly lowered suspension, and a strut brace fitted, so the handling is leagues away from my original 2.0E - a real sports car instead of an old classic.

I'd echo the point about buying fully restored. I bought something which needed loads of work first time round and it cost me quite a lot of money - they really start to degrade fast once they get some rot in. I ended up losing £5k on mine over 2 years in terms of purchase price + repairs - selling price. And I think that was light compared to a lot of people. On the other hand, my fully restored T (bare metal re-spray, new suspension, carpets etc. etc.) is appreciating slowly each year and hasn't cost a great deal yet - probably free motoring all in if I were to sell now!

Whether an S is worth it all depends on how much cash you have to start with. I struggle to see how paying £35k for a RHD 2.4S is good value when you can buy a great LHD 2.4T from the US with the fuel injection for £15k-£18k in absolutely mint condition. But on the other hand, as I said these are appreciating, so if you have the cash knocking around it's not going to cost any more to own. For me, the cheaper car and some money towards home improvements/reducing the mortgage is better value!

A good place to look for advice is www.ddk-online.co.uk or speak to Nick at Early 911 (www.early911.co.uk) - I bought mine off him.

Let me know if you've any more questions...

Tks Riccardo...........question is have i created a monster? .....still detailing ,all the really expensive bits sorted !

My point being its almost too nice to use ! BUT I AM USING IT AND SHALL CARRY ON THROUGH NEXT WINTER AS WELL , i have enough confidence that other than normal occurrences /servicing etc the preparation was thorough enough that if well cared for it will last .............cud have bought a much newer car for the same dosh, but not what appealed to me 2 years ago when i woke up and thought lets do it!

My Mrs does nt like LHD sort of narrowed my choice and i ll probably get burried in this one ,had a couple of E s first time round and just fancied waiting for an S , E definitely more practical day to day ,but then if it was ease and comfort i would ave gone for a newer model.... its for me not for resale or profit ...........still it does nt hurt if u end up getting ur money back one day ...............have nt mentioned to Madam when that willbe though!

Personally I wouldn't have the guts to use it when there's salt on the road as it's too nice but I'm sure it will stand up to it for the next 30 odds years if it's fully waxoyled.

Any Targa of the period has no door cappings and the water goes straight down in to the doors, also seem to rot around bottom of rear rear screen especially at the sides.......if its all been done , by whom etc >>>>>>>>>>>

Does look lovely... A 2.4E is a quick car, and if has had all the work done as the chap says, then it would certainly be worth looking closely at I would have thought...

A friend of mine has a 1969T, in black, but running an S engine if you are interested. It's left hand drive though. It's not concours, but it isn't scruffy and it's reliable (he went to the South of France and back in it a couple of years ago). Has been doing minimal mileage for the past year since he bought a 993. It's black - but with the T spec black vinyl interior rather than a nicer S interior. That said, think he only wants around £12-13K for it.

Mail through profile if you want him to get in touch with you. Car is in London.

For the record that car is gorgeous, though maybe not for the purist...............a lot of money was spent bringing it to this very useable condition and it shows .............could be purchased now and used for a long time and enjoyed .

You know the car? Serviced by Tower Porsche - perhaps that's where you saw it...

It is fantastic - and sweet Jesus the noise it makes! I considered buying it myself, but wanted a more modern convertible in the end.
