Hi all,
Unfortunately I think I may have incurred my first speeding ticket this week, I'm gutted..I think I was going about 43 in a 30 - the camera was in a van facing me (coming towards it) in a layby with one door open, it's the first time I've seen this and wasn't at all suspicious on approach. It looked like one of these 'e' electrical vans, or a council ambulance!
Do people here still use radar/gps detectors? Are they still legal? Which one would you recommend?
I don't want any more points due to a careless mistake..

I use an Origin b2 but, whilst it will warn you where the fixed cameras are, it's not much use against a mobile van.
By the time your laser detector has picked up the beam, it's probably got you unless your lucky enough for it to pick up scatter as the car in front is locked onto first.
Mine kindly told me that I'd been caught at 75 in a 60 a few year back.

Depending on your budget, you have a number of options.
You can go for an Origin B2 (about £270) this will alert you to all fixed traps, blackspots etc, and will also alert you if you are being lasered (as previously mentioned though, by the time the unit warns you, you've more than likely already been got)
If you want radar coverage as well, then origin will charge you £100 for a fixed radar head (mounts behind the front grille)
Independant jammer units cost about £350 and jam a laser signal but give no other warnings.
The best option, if money is no object, is a B2, with a radar head and an LRC 100 Jammer.
The jammer links in to the Origin and instantly jams any laser signal received for about 5 seconds (to allow you to slow down) and then turns itself off.
Theoretically, this means that the man in the van won't realise you've jammed him, as jammers are definately illegal. All other items mentioned here are fully legal.
The total cost of this protection will be in the region of £650, but should mean your license remains only slightly blemished.

excuse me for interrupting, and I apologise if this is a naive question (I'm no law specialist) but would it not be cheaper (albeit still illegal) to accidentally have your front number plate fall off and risk the eventually inevitable £30/producer scenario?
I know you're not covered for every eventuality but all the same it seems like a simple fix...
Am I missing some greater repercussions or problems with this?
