Not the bridge cameras which have caused such controversity - no, these are for the road works which have recently opened up between J16 and J17 westbound.

This is an interesting tactic as they have not used cameras for sometime while doing the traffic information display work on the M4. They are not currently sited at all of the reduced 50MPH sections, but do watch out as the lines were up in a few other sites.

So, get your camera detectors updated and watch out for them - the one I saw yesterday was just under one of the pedestrian bridges - its clearly marked (just) but can easily be obscured and the lines are actually under the bridge (again to potentially hide their presence?).

Anyway, just thought it was worth a quick post as this is a change in tactic for the Wilts SCP.....

Are these the ones powered by generator? If so, no conviction from these cameras is likely to stand if challenged as there is no type-approval for anything other than mains-powered GATSOs.

I'm almost tempted to go out there and get clocked myself...

wow! I'm sure most of the roadworks Gatso's I've seen have been powered by generators.
If this is the case, could all those you have been convicted by these camera's claim a refund? Hope so.

It will take someone willing to take the case the whole way as the mag's are likely just to convict, so a High Court appeal would be almost a certainty. On top of that, the CPS are likely to do everything to drop the case as soon as they realise they're onto a loser as it really would open the floodgates.

If I ever get caught there though, I'd definitely be up for the fight.

Surely someone here must have been convicted by such a camera & would be up for appealing it?

just been up and down the chequerboard of roadworks between bath and Reading...

basically - 2 cameras eastbound (around swindon) one westbound (again, shockingly, swindon)..

But there was also an unmarked grey vectra pulling people eastbound around A34 junction..

These cameras popped up yesterday, nearly caught me out this morning.

I noticed the white lines on the road surface are far shorter than normal Gatso lines, about 15 feet? A fast speed wouldn't be recorded on the lines, unless they've changed the photo's to be taken 1/4 second apart?
