Road Angel Navigator 6000
Discussion
Afternoon guys, hope we all enjoyed Le Mans,
Blackspot have amazed me £250 for a satnav system, why is it so much cheaper than the original Navigator, the maps look better, it has better functionality, MP3 player - not necessary tho i dont think.

There's no mention of this on the official Black Spot Website
No reason to believe it's not cosha...but as the original RANav was £500, it seems extremely cheap.
I have emailed Blackspot just to make sure.

Just saw the guys at Drivesmart are about to Launch the first wide/screen Nav/camera detector system DS MERCURY priced at around £299 with free camera updates for life!
European speed camera data is included and full EU maps half the price of Road Angel or Snooper.
Full MP3/MP4 support and also USB host which is really cool!

I bought a RA and then moved to Snooper Indago for one reason
QUALITY
the RA is rubbish and the warranty is 1 year only. My RA2 packed up after 18 months
the Snooper Indago has a 5 year warranty and it seems to be better built
Avoid the Road Angel products... they are poorly built

I used a Road Angel Navigator for about 2 weeks and it really was a piece of crap,The satellite lock is also appaling which means its totally usless most of the time for anything.
ASTON how the Fxxx could have you owned a RA navigator for 18 months?
It was only launched end of last summer so thats less than a year ago?
I was really pissed off as UKSPEEDTRAPS said it was the dogs bollox only to find out that site is totally corrupt and the guy who runs it Steve Warren actually works for Road Angel!LOL
I did a deal for the Snooper Indago and that was a big improvement over the RA but still its not all that good.
Misses lots of cameras around London and the SAT lock is also not brilliant.
I sold it a few weeks ago on ebay as no way am I going to get ripped off for £4.00 a month subscription for a database that leaves a lot to be desired.
Anyway my money is on the DS MERCURY right now and looking forward to it as I purchased there Defender2 laser jammer a few weeks ago and its a brilliant bit of kit.

my mistake - I was referring to the RA2 not the navigator
I wanted to upgrade to the Navigator (using the option allowed by the firm) but then the RA2 died slowly (contacts, sat lock...) and I was totally pissed off.
Hence I moved to the Indago and so far so good
apologies for the misunderstanding

Hi Aston I bet your enjoying all this nice weather with that roof down!
Yes the Road Angel Navigator is the biggest piece of crap and its disgusting that it can even be called a Navigation system.
What is really funny is how people still buy this unit and if there expectations are met with this system it would be like taking a step out of the stone age buying another system!LOL
I had all the horrible GPS reception problems and the screen was going blue all the time and kept making the "Clicking" noise all the time as well,And actually trying to use it was almost impossible as the screen is totally unreadable in sunlight.
I would urge anyone considering buying a Road Angel Navigation unit to seriously take notice of all the criticism that is all over the internet and steer well clear,Don't get suckered in to some marketing hype the end result is a real piece of unusable crap.

Do you not think that they would have sorted out any problems they may have had with the first one before bringing out the new one? There is nothing on their website that explains the differences between the first one and the new one.
My mate bought a Tom Tom 910 the weeks ago and is on his third one. He is taking it back to get his money back which proves that they are not all infallable.

dear PH friends
there are only 2 things in life that are very difficult to buy
a) the right Sat Nav
b) the right DVD recorder
it is a friggin' nightmare!

PS: I recently went to France with the Aston to visit Omaha beash, Juno and all these important historical locations (St. Marie Eglise, etc): people were stopping in all places...
I am going this month in Italy via the Monte Bianco pass to visit Lake Como, Lake Maggiore then a move down to Portofino, bit on the right to Montecarlo then up on the Millau Bridge back to London.
Will take some pics

Put it this way if your friend is not happy with the Tomtom he would throw up if he used the Road Angel Navigator products.
I am talking from experience of using the system,Its also terrible and slow for updating(When its actually working)while you are driving,You end up missing your turning as the unit is so slow.
Its also impossible to get through to there technical support on the telephone and they also do not answer e-mails and if they do its like 1 week later.
The company I got the Navigator from told me that the phones lines were engaged at Road Angel because of all the problems and complaints with the Navigator.

LOL
DVD recorders I would forget and go for a high end Hard Disc recorder in fact even the cheaper asain low end ones have progressive scan and component or DVI output.
Wait for a while as all the HD(High Definition)stuff is just round the corner.
Also I would seriously take a look at the DS Mercury for the Navigation.
I would keep the speed camera detection stuff of the dash borad in France with all the over zelous JD'S waiting to bust the nice English people!LOL

if you go on snooper.fr there is a clear reference to the snooper legality. It is not a radar detector. Being a GPS only one is in the clear. You can browse their website and print the necessary material

Actually the Law in France is that its illegal to have any data that can show you where speed traps are located.
