every time I go on a page where the sainsbury's add appears to the side, it loads to the ad, sits there for bloomin ages, then once the ad has loaded continues to load the rest.

I've noticed this before with a couple of ad's, but the Sainsbury's one is REALLY bogging it down for me.

Anyone else having problems?

Ted won't like me saying this, but I use Firefox with the adblock extension. I don't even see the adverts on this site, not even the flash ones.

Do you bypass your electricity meter too?

I dont mind the ad's, quite often something catches my eye I'd like to look at (probably not a good thing with my will power), it's just the ones that make it bloomin awful to try and get where you are going that irritate.

I go to great lengths to ensure the ads on here are motoring related and not too intrusive.

I know ad blockers are used but it still grates when people tell me that they choose to use them.

as I say, no ad blocker, I find some of em useful - any idea why the sainsbury's one might cause the page to seize up each time it's displayed though? if it's something my end I can have a fiddle around.

It gets halfway down the page, loads the advert, then loads the rest of the page. If the advert takes a while to load, as some do (beyond teds control I expect), then the rest of the page won't appear until the advert has timed out, which I've known take up to a minute...

I'll check it out or remove it.

Just to let you know it does this to me too. I usually just hit refresh a couple of times or go and read something else to let it calm down (dunno if it does anything but it seems to work)

My connection seems to be slow too, but I've had problems getting on PH all week, so I put it down to that.

Ted, a little off topic, but I re-enabled pop-ups and advertisements on Norton antivirus for Pistinheads a few months back to see what all the fuss is about, and I can't say I've noticed anything different . Are the ads for the UK only or is there something else still blocking them?

I rarely accept popup campaigns on PH so you haven't missed anything.

I've noticed that some of the bigger Flash ads really hammer my systems... this may be due to Flash being shite on my platform (Mac OS X) but you'd expect a maxed-out Quad to be able to deal with browser stuff OK. The current Renault 'safety zone' (bleeah) Flash ad uses 100% of one of my CPUs.

Ted - any chance of checking out the system load profile of a Flash ad when accepting it? Some of us on slower systems get utterly hammered by constant-animation Flash adverts. I don't want to have to resort to Flash blocking software.

Unfortunately not, due to the way the ads are dealt with (agencies, middle men etc. etc.).

Sorry if that's not very helpful. I'm surprised that it's having that effect. I will talk to the agency to see if anyone else is reporting problems.

I've cancelled the Sainsbury's campaign.
