Guys,

Quickie one for you - how do I set the likes of FEAR and HL/HL2, BF2 to run at the native resolution of my son's LCD TV (Sammy 940 MW), which is 1440x900 (10:9 aspect)?
I recall something about .ini files and being able to change things there, but unless they're hidden nowadays on XP, I can't see any to modify.

Thanks.

They should come up in the games settings, PC games normally use direct-X to handle the video mode switching, and that works by asking the video driver on your machine what modes are supported by your hardware (your monitor needs to be PnP for it to be able to instruct your PC what modes it supports).

Sadly, not the case - if so, then the aforementioned games would be able to run natively.
Depends on what resolutions the game makers opted to include - hence my mentioning of amending the .ini file.
As if proof were needed - HL2 doesn't offer 1440, but the demo Coast something or other does!

Thanks anyway.

Anyone else have any solutions?

The file might be called something like settings, preferences of config. It may not look like a text file or ini file but if you find one, open it using notepad but save it as is, do not change it's file type and before making any changes copy the file to your desktop so you can copy it back and overwrite any changes you made to the original if they don't work.

Edited to add - found this about FEAR

"
Screen Resolution: Same as the Resolution setting under the Display options, however there is one major difference - this displays the current resolution, including unsupported resolutions. This is a good way of checking to see if a resolution you've set in the Settings.cfg file has been successfully implemented (See Advanced Tweaking for full instructions). However if you have set a custom resolution, don't click on this setting as it will force your resolution back to one of the standard resolutions."
