Well its back...after 5 months off the road....

My first drive of the year in the Tuscan in January resulted in 3rd gear blowing up. Obviously the mighty Red Rose engine has too much torque for the weedy standard T-5 box.

So a recon factory gearbox was fitted along with a new clutch and up-rated clutch slave seals (from Joolz), and a new heater motor. Oh and also asked for investigation into my tapping noise from the top of the engine at idle...burnt exhaust valve, valve clearances were adjusted but told it could all go anytime soon.

No worries, I thought, so off I went. 100 miles later it was misfiring and would not run smoothly...engine rebuild time! 22000 miles on the engine and 17000 miles since the 2001 re-build (2 factory re-builds in total).

So after discussions with my main dealer who I bought the car off new in 2000 and with their full TVRSH and much more discussion with the factory, the factory agreed (at a price) to rebuild the engine to the latest Sagaris specification with all brand new parts except the block and crank (it being the rare early Red Rose steel crank) including re-building the inlet manifolds with all new parts and up-rated throttle bodies. Latest ECU fitted. The icing on the cake was giving me a new Red Cam cover. This apparently is worth at least 100bhp extra

I decided to buy custom de-cat pipes from Penisula TVR to replace my half burnt out cats which I will only use at MOT time. It’s hardly louder at idle or part throttle, I will have to see how loud it is at higher revs when it’s run in.

The powder coating by the chassis rails, like all the earlier cars without the heat shields fitted was deteriorating, so that was hammerited and a heatshield fitted.

Here are some pics of the chassis and engine.

I’m off to get some miles on the engine this weekend, it’s incredibly quiet (the engine) and smooth but after all of this with thousands just spent...I think I may have lost my love for the Tuscan...someone may get an incredible bargain...

We will see.

Cheers
Whitey
