Hi. Has anyone ever fitted rear seats to a gt2 or a gt3 as i prefer these two over the 996tt.I have two sons one quite small and we travel quite alot aroung the country at the weekends (hence the need for three seats.)I understand it will require the cage removal but does it unbolt so it can be put back for the track days.Regards Craig

Not sure if the mounting points are there already - I suspect they are. However, access to the rear is not good with the standard GT2/3 Recaros - you'd have to go for the optional sports seats, which have a folding facility.

I saw a guy on the way back from Le Mans who had done this and also got a child car seat in the back he said the seat belts mount realy easily he just bought the parts from Porsche dealer and fitted them himself.
I have also seen german cars in this speck so it must be farly simple I have the sports seats so am also thinking of this mod. however it does mean you cannot fit the techequipment cage as this mounts to the rear seatbelt mounts.

Only problem might be insurance - the GT3 is listed a a two seat vehicle, so if you have three up (even if it is the little one!) it might cause an issue?

I think you would just need to notify your insurers that the seats have been retro-fitted to manufacturer's specification using correct original parts.

Some Porsche dealers will say it can't be done, but others will say yes. The GT3 is homologated as a 2-seater but the 996/997 is type approved as a 2+2. Of course you would need the tipping front seats and no roll bar.

Ves, have you seen where the GT3 is listed as a 2-seat vehicle? I know on my documents there is no seating specification at all. Its just a Porsche coupe.

This board must be getting soft. A year ago there would have been chants of "burn him" and "sacrilege".

That said, GT3s have cupholders so why not?

Quite how anyone can add weight like that to a GT3 is beyond belief. Why not get a C2 with a bodykit?

FWIW, my Mk1 is a UK supplied car through the OPC and the V5 has no reference to it being a 2 seater. In fact, the V5 has no seating configuration stated at all.

Simon, are you suggesting that a c2 with a body kit is the same car/drive as a gt2/gt3 with a rear seat fitted. How heavy do you think the seat weighs?
thanks for the advise on the insurance i will check that out with my brokers
regards Craig

GT3 uses the C4 shell (slightly stiffer).

The shell is also seam welded for extra rigidity

imho a c2 with a body kit would be nothing like as good as a gt3, engine in particular. I'm thinking of going for a 997 gt3 and doing this. much more fun than a turbo and a whole lot cheaper... for road use i bet the rear seats weigh less than the cage...!
