...I'm planning to drive to the 'mainland' in a few weeks - never driven outside the UK before!

What exactly am I supposed to do to my headlights ('99 996) to make them legal and are there any other things that need to be done to the car?

What about insurance/breakdown cover?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I'm sure theres a switch on the headlights, pop them out and the switch converts to euro drive.

I've got an '03 car and if you take the headlights out there's a switch under the cover that converts them - it's all explained in the manual.

RHD to LHD via the switch in the light unit only works on Litronics. Normal lights need the tape applied. That's what it says in my manual.

I have a template for the tape needed to apply to the headlights,

Use sticky back plastic and cut them out yourself rather than pay OPC (stealer) rates for thier sticky back plastic (£18 or something equally silly if I remember rightly!)

Drop me an email and I will mail you the template.

Phil

PS I'm off to France camping in the Boxster for a week in a couple of days... a tight squeeze but should be fun!

My 993 doesn't have litronics but does have a right/left drive switch

Just quoting from my 996 manual. Haven't had much experience with 993s. Seems strange it did not carry from 993 to 996.

I'm sure I don't have litronics either but do have the switch.

I do remember some law in Italy whereby side lights or dipped must be on at ALL times. Odd, and I may have remembered it incorrectly but its something like that.

best bet, nip over to the EuroHoon forum and send nick V12V8 an email.

Yes, new law (last year or two) in Italy - lights on when on the motorway. Terrible idea as bikes are harder to see.

Stay tuned - the Brussels buffoons are about to require it across the EU, on all roads at all times.

No, no, no, no that's a dreadful idea.

Lights in daylight are awful. I'm sure I read somewhere that the RAF put forward facing white lights on their aircraft in WWII becuase it made it harder to judge the speed in daylight (not at night obviously before anyone starts).
