Hello

I have just bought a half share in a 360 with a friend to be used mainly for trackdays and some fun road miles. He picked it up on the weekend and I went for my first drive today - what a great car. We are planning to do a "shake down" trip or track day this month and perhaps a few sensible mods before our first trip to the Ring next month. The main use for the car will be driving to and from the Ring and track time once there.

Does anyone have experience of driving a 360 at the Ring or sensible mods for track days? We have both previously tracked M3s/911s so any information would be helpful.

Thanks

You'd do well to upgrade the brakes and install a cage.
Bear in mind that the 360 has a much lower polar moment than the M3 and 911, so watch it on the circuit's many cresting bends, pr when it's been damp or in the morning before the dew has burnt off. Those bends in the shadows (Hocheichen, Bergwerk, Hohe Acht, Wipperman, as well as a few other spots), will only dry out much later that the more exposed areas will do.

Turn into the bends late and that will help you to stay out of trouble.

Did anybody get to the bottom of why that 360 fatally flipped at SX?

You may do better to leave the 360 near the ring and pay not much for storage. That way you can fly to Koln and take a hirecar down to the circuit (only 45 minutes) as often as you wish. It will put less mileage and wear on the car, plus you needn't worry about getting home in case of mechanical/talent failure, and it may actually cost less in the long run.

An interesting car for your first laps - as flemke says, they can be twitchy, especially on a circuit you don't know which is difficult to learn and easy to fall off. Have fun.

I have a video of me trying to follow one in my old car. It gets a very scarey twitch on over the crest on the entry to Swedenkrauz. I thought the driver was about to have a biggie but he got away with it. I will post it up later if I can find it.

Hi. Thanks for the suggestions guys. We have both done 40-50 laps at the Ring so while not experienced hands we know which way the circuit goes and a few of the danger spots.

Cage definitely makes sense, what do you guys suggest for a brake upgrade? Just pads or full brake system?

Video would be very interesting.

Looks like our first trip is booked but not until the weekend of 18 August. Plan to go out Friday, return Tuesday. Looking forward to it.

If you leave a car at the Ring long term on UK insurance you will almost certainly be breaking the terms of the policy (and maybe the law). You cannot have a UK insured car out of the country for more than 90 days in total per year or more than 60 consecutively (at least that's what my policy said).

Of course, how will they know - and, why should they care!

Personally I would have thought running a 360 as a track-only car to be a pretty expensive thing to do (but I'm quite anti-Fezza anyway) - I assume there are places relatively local to Nurburg that could look after one (maybe Frankfurt, worst case)?

Most policies do not require you to tell them the dates you are travelling though.

when my freind crashed at the ring he had to send them his ferry tickets to prove it was a trip and not living there. one thing you can guarantee - they will try anything to weasle out of paying up on a 60k bill

Don't know what your budget is like for brake upgrades, but if you're going to be doing multiple back to back laps it might be worth considering ceramic brakes. Not cheap at all, and I have to admit I've never used them, but most people seem to rate them highly.

However I have no idea what the stock brakes are like for fade, etc.

If you don't do the ceramic thing then some high spec Ferodos (DS2500/3000) may well do the trick, they stopped my Esprit (DS3000) like an anchor was chucked out the window, no fade just hard biting and tyre squeeling. I run DS2500 as the 3000 started squeeling but they were phenomenal. DS2500 are still very good.

Insurance etc is all sorted, we plan to drive the car there and back as that is part of the fun. Interesting to hear that people think a 360 is a strange choice for a track day car - we picked this one up at a very reasonable price and it drives and handles beautifully. It will be interesting to see how it stands up to the mileage.

Thanks for the tip re brakes, will probably finish off the curent pads and disks before going for an upgrade.

Regards

I think the general feeling is not that it's strange, just not the cheapest track car around. Personally I think it's great a Ferrari is going to get used properly. And I'm also fairly jealous. I think the missus would be a bit upset if I sold the house and replaced it with a 360 Challenge Stradale.

Budget wouldn't stretch to a CS so we went for a standard 360 - lots more choice too. I was not convinced that the premium was worth it from a driving and performance point of view. Pound for pound I think it was a good buy and it meant I didn't have to sell the house.

Anyone going to the ring w/e of 19 August come and say hello - we will be in the titanium coloured 360.
