I bought my PSP yonks ago through import with ridge racer and played with it for a few days then just left it.

Then bought Grand theft auto and completed that and have since not touched my PSP.

Can anyone recommend any good games. My new job entails a lot of sitting around doing nothing so getting a bit bored. I think I saw tomb raider in the paper for 20quid from virgin and I also like games like the old doom/quake.

Also, any news on new gran turismo.

Thanx

Untold Legends (including the new one out now) are pretty good. Mindless hack and slash top-down 3d game but for a satisfying 30 minutes you can kill lots of monsters. I tried the new Pirates of the Caribean the other day and it looked OK, but it was only a quick play so cant vouch for it being good all the way through.

But, the best PSP game IMHO is Daxter - its a platformer and its a bit tough in places. But very addictive and works well on the PSP. It shows the power of what is possible as its a near Playstation 1.5 (halfway between 1 and 2 type graphics) game and I only hope that more are on the way - for reference Ratchet and Clank are due soon the PSP. Also TOCA Race Driver was a launch title and is little more than a rework from the PS2 to PSP but plays well and WRC Rally is amusing though a little tough in places.

However, I would like to see some more games though. Its pretty light on quality games other than fighting / racing / sports titles. Hopefully Q4 this year will see some more effective releases rather than re-hashes....

Mercury - it's a bit different, clever and addictive

Kinda like the modern version of Tetris - sort of devilishly simple
but not........

Lumines.
Simple game but irritatingly addictive. I've lost many hours of my life to this game. And I don't even like the PSP!

The missus just got Sims2. She says it's crap, but she's been playing it non stop for four days now. Comes in handy as I've had a quiet life

Tiger Woods 2006 is great and I have lost untold hours to it. Wipeout is proving to be a good replacement. Will take a look at Daxter. What I really want is a first person shooter - doom or quake clone would be good!

I only recently bought Ridge Racer and found it great - completed it too.

However, so far the best game I have played was 'Midnight Club - Dub Edition'. Very addictive and good play, tough enough to hold your interest.

Like you I'm still left wanting for a good game on the PSP.

Why not play Doom and Quake on it then!

Or descent, or any of the games that use the SCUMM engine (day of the tentacle, sam n max, etc!).

Have a look here...

Looks good Chimple, have wanted to play Full Throttle ever since I had the demo way back in the day, and Day of the tentacle would be good to play through again. Any clues on where to get hold of the games?

The phrase you are looking for is "abandonware"!!

My starting point was www.abandonwarering.com, although they are having problems atm, everytime you search, it finds nothing!

There are plenty of sites out there, I don't have full thottle (it may not be abandonware), but if you google it, you may get lucky.

Here are some good sites if you want any emulation related goodness :

www.abandonia.com/
www.freeroms.com/ (recently recommended, havent tried it myself)
http://emuparadise.org/ (very good)
www.edgeemu.com/ (not sure about this one, LOTS of categories (look at the roms link at the top), but lots were empty!)

http://amigos.amiga.hu/ancientoys/ind (Old amiga stuff)
www.classic-gaming.net/ (Old PC stuff... have a look for dosbox and bochs if you want to play old DOS gamse)

CodedArms (I think it's called) is a FPS that's meant to be quite good - though I've never lived FPS games on consoles I find them too clunky.

Hmmm... received it yesterday, think I have the same opinion as you, although might be fun as a 2 player game.
