Got a notice today for a parking offence demanding 60 quid for a parking ticket that I apparrently have not paid. Thing is I never recieved a ticket. However invalid excuses for not paying include ''I did not recieve a ticket''. I can understand that a lot of people will try and pull a fast one and say they didn''t get a ticket but I genuinely didn''t. Now I have missed the window to pay the ''cheap'' 30 quid reduced fine for quick payment, the council see fit to inform me for the first time that I have made a violation. This seems like daylight robbery. Can a traffic warden not issue a ticket and still nick you? Anyone got any ideas? (I''m going back to the place that the alleged offence was committed - Richmond Riverside (london) to check for lines as where I parked as far as I am aware has no restricted markings anyway..)

probably right campbell, but it pisses me off that if indeed I did commit an offence (and I'm not even aware of doing so) that I didn't get the chance to do the dutiful citizen bit and pay up fast. (gripe gripe gripe etc) I figure its unlikely I can take em on and win when I don't even know what I've done...

you could try writing back and saying "I didn't get a ticket, I wasn't even there, please leave me alone and go away" - in this instance I would have thought forcing them to show you some evidence of what you did is worthwhile because this just seems like a bit of a con to me. If they wont let you pay the cheaper fine, then the least you can do is make them waste a few stamps! N

No you won't. I got a ticket from Richmond council, on a Bank Holiday, which the sign said was O.K. Argued with the parking attendant, and the council on the phone. Bottom line : 'you have a ticket pay up or go to court'. Who has the time for that lark? £30 pounds poorer. Best bet is to send £30 with a note explaining that you did not receive the ticket, so are not prepared to pay the full amount as you would have settled early had you known about it. Tickets for the area where I live are administered by Banbury Police and I ALWAYS argue the toss with them. Of the 3 or so I have received in Maidenhead I have managed to get off 2. It's surely worth a try? Rich...

I argued with Westminster Council that their parking meter was faulty (which it was). They couldn't disprove it and I had a witness to the fact that the last pound coin wouldn't go in. However, just by insisting and by saying that they maintained the meter regularly, they were believed by the 'independent' adjudicator. It took a year to sort out from which I derive a smidgeon of pleasure. The moral? The b*ggers will get you in the end.... -Manek-

From what ive seen on the TV about programs like "The life of a Traffic Warden" Its not upto the Warden to put a new tiket on to your car if some one removes it, once it leaves there hands, thats it, its upto the commom sence of the public to leave it alone so you know you have done wrong, so i think it's up to the area you are in at the time but they could let you know though the post you have a fine to pay before it doubles or they come to take the car away
