Could this be the solution to our hydrogen storage needs.

www.powerball.net

Also I just couldn't resist starting a thread with the everso slightly amusing powerball name.

Opinons?
Sounds good but will it be too costly. I for one think it sounds good but I just can't see it catching on somehow.
But then again as the fuel cell car becomes more accessable it may be the solution.

Each 'powerball' needs to be broken open in order to allow the chemical reaction. Alkali metal hydrides also tend to react rather vigorously with water.
Doesn't sound that simple to make work easily - I'd imagine the old powerball plastic coatings would need removing from the tank, and some controllable way of only breaking the right number of balls to create the required gas production rate, etc.

However sounds good as bulk storage for transport from the means of production to refuelling stations.

Could have some good fun with them though - cut a slash in a ball and drop it in someone's pint, then leg it
