Anyone know much about this engine or who to go to if I was thinking about playing.

Not looking for anything dramatic as its in a sensible VW, I know the TT takes it to 220Bhp and can be modified to 300bhp but I am more interested in an increase in torque than outright power and I don't think I really want to go above 200bhp.

Andy, the torque aint too bad already... I have an audi a3 with one of these lumps in. Heard about a fella in evo who'd shoehorned a heavily tuned one into a mk1 golf. Went like a rocket apparently...

Try these chaps:

I was also told by a VAG specialist that de-catting these engines releases quite a few ponies...

www.auto-amd.com in Bicester sorted my Dub. They do a 265bhp package including a RR session for about £800 IIRC.

Andy

Jabba sport and AmD do a re-map that will give the 150bhp engine around 200 bhp for £400.

But from what I understand the standard 150 bhp figure is quite modist. My friend just yesterday had his mk4 golf done and the figure before re-map was 162 bhp with a final reading of 220 bhp with 240 ibs of torque. He did already have a cat-back exhaust system tho.

Edited to say my friends re-map was done at Jabba, a couple of people I know have been there and come away very happy.

The 1.8T engines pretty much match bhp for torque, usually slightly more torque. 200 bhp should keep it relyable and that little more drivable

Speak to iguana (alex) - he works for one of the companies mentioned - the company that does factory approved chip upgrades for VW's (I think) and his boss is putting a bloody great big V8 Audi twin Turbo in an Ultima

That'll liven up my VW Sharon, due to it being an auto it feels a little flat low down and needs a bit more kick.

Stealth Racing and AmD are both well respected in VW/Audi turning circles. I've used both for my VR6 and have been very happy, and I know others who have used them for the ubiquitous 1.8T engine.

Guys on the TT Forum are talking about a 'new' tuner called Revo. You'll find more info at www.tt-forum.co.uk.

I surpose you'll be fitting 18" wheels to it next. It's a people carrier not a sports car. Why not spend your money on those nice Calipers of mine.....
