Ive been offered an 04/04 C4S cab in black with 19k miles for 53k. Is that a good price? It doesnt have satnav or pse but thats not really a must for me as i dont think the satnav is very good. It has black leather and is in very good condition. Its just had the 24k service last month and has 11 months left on the OPC warranty. Ive had an independant inspection done and it has come back A OK. Parkers website says that the value is 50k from a dealer and 40k poor but i dont think thats correct looking at the average OPC and private prices being asked (Around 55 - 60k). Can someone advise me what the glasses price for this car is (Trade and Retail) as i dont have access to a current copy. Opinions of waht i should pay would be helpful also.

Thanks.

Glasses says - Manual £56550 retail, £50550 trade; Tip £57275 retail, £51275 trade. Based on 14k miles. You'd need a Porsche specialist to advise how mileage & spec affect values.

Don't wish to put you off, but the C4S cab is VERY heavy (1565kg), this does blunt performance & handling and is a step too far in my opinion! BHP per tonne is down to 204 in the C4S, by comparison the 987 Boxster "S" has 208 & C2 facelift cab 224!

The facelift C2 cab weighs:1425kg (140kg less!)& C4:1485kg (80kg less) and are both cheaper!

Personally I think the C2 cab is "the pick" unless you don't need the rear seats & then the 07 Model year Boxster "S" with the power upgrade would be the star Porker cab. A brand new 66 plate with all the toys for far less, faster & better handling to boot!

Have you test drove both? If not, it is worth making the effort.

Im upgrading from an E46 M3 cab. I wanted a turbo, The girlfriend wanted a cabriolet. I cant afford a turbo cabriolet so ive plumped for the c4s cab as it has turbo looks and obviously is a cab. I think the c2 looks far to skinny and there are loads of them about which is not a plus for me. I need 4 seats too so the boxster is also out. Bit of a hairdressers car too IMO. Im not gunna track the car and im not a boy racer so 10bhp per tonne difference is not really a big deal. Its fast enough, handles well and looks nice. Thats all i need. Any more opinions on what i should be paying for the above mentioned car would be appreciated.

Throwing the guides to one side, I think that £53k is a lot of money to spend on a 996 C4S cab.. A LOT.

Alternatively, you say that you want a Turbo - well £50k buys a very reasonable 996 Turbo coupe... do you really need to put the roof down? I had a 997 Coupe which I loved but didn't think much of the 997 Cab I had (and I LOVE convertibles - 911s are just not designed to be convertibles and look awkward).

With used 997 C2S cabs available for another £10k I'd beg, steal and borrow another £10k and plump for that. I sold my 997 C2S cab about a year ago to the trade for £69k (I think) so if you hunt around I would expect you could pick a private one up for good money now... especially if you wait for the sun to die down.
