ENGINE DISASTER
Discussion
Well I for one thought the thread was an amusing relief to some of the horror stories reported over the last few weeks.
I too was absolutely shocked to find that my car had not suffered an engine failure during my commute this morning.
Similarly I will probably require the smelling salts this evening when the car fires up at the first turn of the key. You know how damm unreliable these Porsches can be.
Ves - two questions - given your extensive comments on the previous engine disaster thread - are you a) on holiday with time to spare, b) not overly busy at work or; c) just a quick typist. Crikey I would need all day to type the amount of comments you have today.
second question - what is a troll? (apart from a hairy git who lives under a bridge)

thanks for the clarification. I will keep an eye out for them.
For the record, my 996 has always been serviced on the dot and my OPC has fallen over itself to help me whenever I have had a problem.
In fact, eventhough I do not have an OPC warranty, I have recently been diagnosed with RMS failure and desipte the lack of warranty Porsche will pick up the full cost of the part and 80% of the labour
So much for the "Porsche doesn't give a t*ss about its customers" threads.

Some sanity at last. God bless you.
Maybe some of the comments here are in direct response to the best Porsche forum thread?
My opinion is that the posters opener is a small part of what makes phers so valid and special and serves a purpose of keeping this forum engaging and fun.
We all can spot the real forum idiots and they never last anyway.
I use many forums from time to time and maybe this one might not be the biggest technical bible out there but so what?
I hope this forum doesn't change because imo its a great place to tune into and make time which otherwise might be boring very interesting.

On a n/a 996 if you have oil level up to the max and then do long right hand turns very fast, oil can go up and through the breather and back into the airbox resulting in LOADS of smoke. It doesn't mean the engine has blown and there is a simple fix for it apparently (an extra baffle fitted somewhere?).
On the other hand the Boxster in the pic may have actually blown up, I wasn't there?
I tell you what, if I saw that much smoke coming from the rear of my car during hard cornering I have little doubt I would sh*t myself.
What the saying, there's no smoke without.....bleeding expensive bills.
Could you imagine getting the call from your OPC "hello Mr Customer we have given your engine a through examination and I am afraid it will require engine replacement. We have one in stock - it will cost you £12000...."
I think I would throw myself off a high building.
