I just received a call from my dealer - my Aero that was supposed to go to build on June 26th - is now not starting production until Sept 4th, due to no engines being in stock.

Add to that, BMW closes down in August and basically I'm stuffed, along with 4 other 'new' owners.



So if I'm lucky the car will arrive late September but if it takes the standard 5-weeks, I'm looking at the middle of October. Not thrilled as I was looking forward to enjoying it through a nice late-summer, early autumn

Man you must be gutted!
I'd politely ask your dealer / the factory for some freebies by way of compensation.

(Something along the lines of an extra option if theres aything you'd still like you haven't ordered).

Or get the warranty extended for another year - thats always useful...

Totally gutted... Sept 01 is a lot different than, worst case, mid October in terms of driving enjoyment. While I'll enjoy it right the year round - with the top down - I was looking forward to getting the last of the warm-air-driving in before the nights closed in.

I did ask about compensation and the answer was not promising; which was a little disappointing given that it's taken them over 4-weeks to actually tell me that the car hasn't even started production yet!

Tony, have you heard of Morgan giving compensation?

They are always willing to be reasonable in my experience. Equally you have to remember that they are a small family firm - not the likes of BMW with infinitely deep pockets.

Bear in mind that the lack of engines may ultimately be down to the engine supplier - Morgan are a small outlet and can end up at the mercy of the big boys sometimes so you shoudln't necessarily plunge in with size 12s demanding discounts! Your dealer is your best guide here I would say.

I agree and I haven't been unreasonable.

However, it does effect me because I'm away for almost all of October (so realistically, I won't be driving the Aero until November), so it's a little more than a mild inconveniece.

What is also dissapointing is that they took 4-weeks to tell me that my car would be delayed by almost 3-months (first delivery date was touted as early August).

Shame really

The poor communication is fair enough to complain about certainly. The factory can be a bit poor in this department sometimes and I figure it never hurts to point this out - it's something I feel that probably needs to be done a bit better.

I think generally they are pretty good at customer service though - I had an emergency with a buckled wheel in St Tropez this summer and had a replacement at my hotel within 36 hours.

I'd have a chat with your dealer and see what they think is the best course of action. My dealers have advised me on a couple of occasions when I've had issues and in these cases I've usually found a sympathetic reaction.

Factory communication does seem to be a little on the poor side.

The engine issue is understandable due to the size of the company and their heavy reliance on external suppliers; however, poor communications is not.

I'll let you know how I get on and thank you for all your advice
