Hi Guys

The mobile camera's near me all seem to be "Speed Partnership" vans now and not the police, they work by having the back door of the van open and catching you as you head towards them, not past them - so obviously you have shorter time to see them.

Anyone know how far away they snap you? Today one was placed after the brow of a hill, I was going about 40 but slowed down as soon as I saw it (about 30-50 meters away) and went past at 27 - would I have been caught out?

The road they were on is very wide and I'd say the avg. speed is 40 along that strect - and placing it after a blind hill is a bit sneaky.

In all likelyhood they'll have noted your speed before you've managed to lose it.

He's right. The operators have the advantage of knowing exactly where to look to get the earliest good view of your car, whereas you have to scan all bridges/laybys/cars - all at the same time if rounding a bend.

These guys have equipment that'll get you from 999 meters away (although they usually limit themselves to 500m).

An indicated 40 is a very dodgy speed to be caught at; I doubt your speedo will be overreading by enough to put your actual speed under the nominal prosecution threshold.

The idea is to catch you. Hence the backward facing units. Sounds like they will have got you I am afraid.

These guys are only after your cash, so they play dirty. Don't expect to get away with it if you get within their sights. They record everything routinely, so even if they missed you 'live' they can go back and get you again (which is against the rules, but how are you going to prove it?)
