Here's a question I was hoping people could help me with.

I would love to get into trackdays and am thinking about getting some real tuition to get me started down the right path. I drive a 997 but would like to keep that as a road car. Long term aim will be to get a trackday 'weapon', something like a 968 or 993.

I grew up in Scandinavia (rallying on gravel roads in the summer, snow and ice in the winter) so I'd say my car control is definitely above average. I also lived in Germany for a while so happy with very high speeds.

So, does anybody know the best place to get some track tuition for an 'above average' driver ie. more focus on lines, smoothness, consistency, etc rather than basic car control. Ideally somewhere that is close to London and that uses their own cars (ideal of course would be Porkers..!!) and ideally some real one on one tuition.

Any genuine advice/comments/experiences most welcome.

Morning X15 jeb,

Try GoldTrack. Callum Lochie is GB GT Champion (and top bloke)who runs the tracday club. They hold events at all the top circuits and he will instruct you upon request at an additional charge. He is very good but gives you an enourmous amount of info to assimilate while you are charging round the track. He's very into the mental aspects of racing and how to use your brain!! Sounds heavy, but it works.

As for the club, IMHO Goldtrack are great - well organised, friendly and with a generally very high quality of drivers.

Ring them on 01327 361 361. Tell Malindi Jonathan recomended you!!

the obvious choices of venue close-ish to london are brands hatch, silverstone and bedford (zzz but safe). the obvious track day organisers goldtrack (by far the best IMHO), easytrack and bookatrack.

personally if it was me i'd buy a track car and get hold of stuart turvey (ascari euro gt racer) for tuition and book up all the days goldtrack have available. well thats what i did.

(BTW donnington is also awesome - dont discount just because its a bit of a treck from london)

I can highly recommend Callum for tuition, I've used him before and thought I learnt loads. He has a great way of inspring confidence and making you quicker by being smoother and making less radical steering/braking inputs. Stuff that really we all know we should do but find hard to put into practise once the helmet goes on and we see the circuit open up.

He'll happilly go out in your car for 60 quid per half hour on a gold track day or if i remember correctly 400 plus expenses and plus the trackday cost at some ones elses day. Which sounds alot but you'll get a full written review on your driving and how you can improve, plus pyhcological ways of being quicker car set up advice etc etc. I think you can also use the 968 club sport he has if you have a single seater for example.

If your interested I'd advise booking early as he is always very busy on the gold track days I've been to.
