Carrera 3.2 N rated tyres?
Discussion
Hi wondering if anyone can advise on recommendations for tyres on an '89 3.2 Carrera. Rims are 6 & 8J with 205/55 & 225/50 ZR16's.
Car came with Fulda Extremo's but I can't say I'm that impressed with them in the wet. Car easilly wheelspins powering out of low speed corners with moderate throttle......... with usual measured panic to get it back! On high speed wet curves, not bad and breakaway fairly gentle sometime exilarating -but I always feel we're on ice and daren't let up. In the dry very good indeed.
Anybody tried the low cost Fuldas/

N Rated argument on 3.2s can be found elsewhere - certainly on the PCGB forum.
I did query it with a tyre manufacturer (I vaguely remember it being Continental) and came to the conclusion that it wasn't necessary. However, as the N rating is supposed to (apart from being Porsche recommended) imply thicker side walls to help support the unusual weight distribution on a 911, I think that it does add something.
My experience is with two 3.2s, one a Targa and one a Coupe. Both were bought with non-N rated tyres and both were later fitted with N rated tyres by me. Both times I found a marked improvement in confidence - I know that's very unquantifiable but that's all I can really say. The two tyres I fitted were Conti-sport 1s on the Targa and SO2s on the Coupe. The SO2's are definitely the best - a really smooth, grippy, confidence inspiring tyre.
