A mate of mine had this happen to his Chimp last summer.

The garage didn't even realise until he rang to ask whether the car was ready

Tracker found it, though!

Damn, I must admit I've dropped my keys through letterboxes without a second thought. Pretty risky really but what's the alternative? Take a day off work?

I've had to drop keys off like this, and I've always been very nervous about the arrangement. I usually ring the garage to make sure they have them. I've always thought how easy it would be for someone to watch from distance the previous night and see how many drops there are before deciding on breaking in.

Solution, how about your regular garage keeping a copy of your key - (off site) and bringing them in on the relevant day??

I have always been very nrvous about this arrangement, and have always contacted the garage when they were open to make sure they had received them. I've always thought how esy it would be for someone to watch the garage during the evening and see what turns up before breaking in.

Solution?? - Let your regular garage have a copy of your key which they keep off site and bring in on the relevant day

I remember when I worked for a VW franchise a couple of cars going missing from the workshop by supposed thieves lurking, I reckon a couple of the more unsavoury technicians were in on it, some assholes in the workshop.

Reanimating an 11 year old thread, is this a record?

'Tis a sign of dementia; can remember things that happened years ago but...

...and yes, it may be a record! hehe

My wife's beloved, immaculate, low-mileage etc etc 3 year old Vauxhall Cavalier SRi was stolen from our driveway the very night after it had received a major service from the local (2 miles away) Vauxhall Main Dealer.

A coincidence, naturally.

Forgive my lack of knowledge, but could you please explain what a "Chimp" is. Thoughts of Bubbles or Cheetah being left overnight in a garage first sprung to mind
