My first 'real' bike and my first since I was 10!

Scott Aspect 740. Collected it today and took it 3.5 km up a fairly steep ascent and then back down 3.5 km about 4 times quicker! Looking forward to the next time.

I like this (in particular I love internal cable routing) but:
1. Gumwall?
2. Your poor derailleur - have some mechanical sympathy man! Big cog to big cog is a no-no even for photos!
3. Mavic rims but a Zipp bottle cage? That's like mixing Shimano and Campag!
4. Do you have a higher res photo? wink

From points 1 and 3 I can only assume that's your winter wheelset!
How very dare you.... slating a mans steed.... you bounder!

1. Gumwall - Vittoria Corsa SC, best tyres this side of a single. Like riding on silk. And all the best teams use them!
2. No idea why it was like that, i think i just pulled over sharpish after spotting a photo op and needed a quick shift. I rarely ride it like that honest...
3. The Mavics are a decent enough wheel, although I am lusting after a set of Zipp 303's, and as Winter is Coming™ I will be riding this bike less frequently so the funds for the Zipps are going into a Giant Trance project
4. If you right click the image and open in a new browser it should give you the full res! if not the link to my Flikr account is https://www.flickr.com/photos/skinnyboy/

edit: just looking through my Flikr photos and found my old bike in the same spot hehe

my original reply to this seems to have been deleted...I've just ordered the same in XL, despite some of the bikes offered in this thread being possibly better value, my LBS deals in Scotts so I ordered from them. Added some
to finish it off.

Nice! Kinda got the Venge look to it too. Nice colours.

Don't fret that you haven't had it since Xmas, the weather's only just got good enough to take it out!

Looks like a decent bike, but I find it hard to believe that the seat is set to the correct height unless you have an arm/leg ratio like ET.

Might be worth checking out with the bike shop. When the seat is the right height you'll find climbing hills a lot easier.

Bent frames and single forks make my front teeth itch... especially as I don't have them any more.

My first bike in years. Unfortunately I need to change it after only 6 months of ownership as I've signed up to do the coast to coast and I'm going to need gears.
Keep it! You'll be fine on SS. Yes you'll be working harder in places, but at the same time it'll be lighter (like-for-like) and less to go wrong. Which, when you're covering ground, is always a nice thought!

Tidworth Bike Park? Blimey. Where exactly is that? I lived there back in the mid 1990s, off Kennet Road on the Matthews Estate, and I had to make do with the tank roads on the training area, Chalkpit Wood, and the plantation south of Station Road, toward Ashdown Copse.

Is the Bike Park any good? Worth a trip down from Farnborough?

Yellowjack - It's on the A338, just North of Shipton Bellinger/South of Tidworth.

I think they're got 6 or 7 runs now - a couple of blues and reds plus one black and a dirt jump area. There's no uplift so you have to push up a chalky track (slippery in the wet!) but it doesn't take too long. Well maintained tracks and a great day out at only £5 for a day pass.

Videos of three of their runs on my YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/user/239jp/videos

It's about a 40 minute drive for me to get there, can't imagine it's much further from Farnborough so I'd say it's worth the trip. They make good use of the hill and there's some nice big jumps. I'd definitely go to Tidworth rather than Swinley/QE for a bit of fun, but still choose Swinley when I want to get some miles in.

Looks like they've packed a lot into a small space there. I looked it up, and there's a bit on the CTC website.

It looks good in your photos, but pushing a bike up to the top doesn't sound like my thing, really, and I'm not a fan of paying to ride trails when I can ride many other places for free. I'll stick with Hawley/Minley and Swinley for the time being, I think. I might change my mind later in the year, and give Tidworth a crack, but I've been off the bike since February with a shoulder injury, so Blacks and Reds probably aren't a good idea until I get my strength back. Thanks for the info, though. It's always nice to have the option of something different thumbup

And about 400 yds from my front door! I never go there as I am too old for that stuff (and my wife won't let me). Nice Canyon.

The Yeti SB-66 needed a partner to help out for xc duties, so I just added this to the 'n+1' fleet.

Carbon Cannondale Scalpel. Soon to be 1x10 and in due course converted to 650b and hopefully at sub 20lbs after a bit of further carbon titivation.

This is the Yeti btw...
