Would be cool to start this as a sort of guide to roads that suit the Monaro/HSV/Holdens.

I'll start with a quick route.

Billericay in Essex to Padhams Green, out to Blackmore and follow that road all the way back to the A12 - about 20miles.

Some nadgery, some wide flat corners and some good decent straights - above all no cameras (that I could see anyway) and little traffic.

Great fun.

go to the brecon beacons and you will find the roads that top gear use for filming.

smooth twisting tarmac, no hedges so you can see for miles...

there is one which used to used to host the RAC Rally and it goes from Bethlehem to Brynmar (b6509) its superb and will make you realise that almost any other road in southern england is rubbish

What, nobody else knows any good driving roads, anywhere?

Do you all do motorways exclusively then?

What a bunch of jessies, should've got Vectras.

I had an 'altercation' with a WRX STi in May on the Llanberis pass in N.Wales. He beat he f**k outta me on the bends but I had 'im once we got to the A55 & 'straight' roads!! What a road the Llanberis pass is though.

Try the road that crosses Sennybridge Military Ranges in the BB's. No traffic after about 3pm and only a few sheep to worry.... about. Don't take any notice about the 'No Entry' and 'DANGER - Impact Area' signs.... they're only for show! MOD Police only have Landrovers, so you can easily outrun them or just take your plates off like all the 'Boyos' from the Valley's!! . I took my CBR600 down there a few months back, just amazing.

After you've done the Breacon Beacons, shoot down to Monmouth and head down the old Wye Valley road to Chepstow. Awesome road.

Hmmm, did the Llanberis pass yesterday, down to Beddgelert then onto Porthmadog and Bleaunau Ffestiniog, up to that point, certainly no road for the Monaro. Too narrow in places and some corners way too sharp and sudden for standard brakes.

Once out of B/ffestiniog and onto the A470 heading to Betws-y-Coed it was totally different. Plenty of long roads with some really good corners and all down hill just to add to the fun!

Just edited to add that the road from Porthmadog to B/Ffestiniog is also a good road and all recently resurfaced and is quite nice'n'wide.

You have the option of either going back onto the A5 towards Shrewsbury and some great straights, tight corners plus nice smooth surfaces and a really memorable straight where you'd easily crack 100mph.

Or A470 from Betws to Glan Conway via Llanrwst but you have to be vigilant on that because the Police enforce speed limits with the Helicopter. You can thank the Sunday 'born again' motorbikers for that. But it's a good road with some good overtaking opportunities should you get stuck behind the occasional 'rubber neckers' in their Volvos.

Or A5 through Betws, Capel Curig and down through the Ogwen Valley towards Bethesda. Some tight corners, but these suit the Monaro a lot better and you can get some nice exit speeds. Not sure if it seems a better route reversed to go from Bethesda to Betws though. Perhaps Paul H might have something to add on that.

If you ever go to Betws-y-Coed, especially on a Sunday, watch out for the bikers, it's their local gathering point and once some of them get out onto the roads, they are LETHAL.

Come to think of it, it could be a possible meet place for us North Wales/North West lot one day if we ever sort a meet out.

we did the sennybridge road, plus the elan valley road, plus the devils staircase (tiny road but very challenging), plus the a470 and the turn off the a470 over the hills, up to Devils bridge plus a testing route autocar gave us from Newtown back in to England

All great but in a Monaro the A470 would be superb to Brecon, then on to Llandridnod Wells over the upper chapel mountain road, back down the A470 turn right off to Neath, superb bit of road - then off to Brynmar and do the 6905 in both directions

hmmm. i have the day booked off on Friday now I come to think of it.

The A272 isn't bad although the traffic can be tiresome in places and someone has even written a book about it!http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A272_roa also the A32 from Alton down to Fareham is quite good - although watch out for speed traps and bikers - its a good biking route too (edited to add and for some reason whilst I can see a "d" at the end of the link, it doesn't then show up on screen.....oh well! edited again to say but it does seem to work!)

Northumberland is EXCELLENT - heaps of roads

Also route from Middleton in Teesdale to Stanhope to Derwent Water - pretty amazing.

Blakey Ridge is good.

But shed loads of roads in Oz, just speed restricted, but hey with views like these who needs speed.

Paul, yeah - I actually meant the road from Betwys through Capel Curig, Bedgellert through the Ogwen Valley to the A55...I agree there are some VERY tight corners, which is where the STi caught me up!...sorry if I confused all!

Edited to correct spelling then edited again to add:- Yeah, Paul...a meet up in this neck of the woods would do fine...time & place? Am next home over New Year!
