Bioethanol anybody?
Discussion
Just read the short article in the The Sunday Times – Driving on the Fullflex Manager, allowing the use of any combination of unleaded/bioethanol. Quick google shows only two Morrisons supermarkets doing bioethanol at present, but if it becomes more widely available what are the downsides other then cost of the ECU plug in and an hours labour, because the upside looks good, cheaper (only 2p a liter less admittedly), higher octane and cleaner so you can tell eco terrorists to get off your case.
Later PCM's are 1024kb as opposed to 512kb and most of the extra size is coding to deal with ethanol.
You need around 9:1 ratio for stoich in comparison to petrol so in effect you need 1.5x as much for the same distance, so 2p a litre less is a waste of money, It needs to be around half the price to be worth it. Thats on pure ethanol, otherwise it will be in proportion to the amount in the tank.
