Oh what fun it is once a year trying to get the best quote on car insurance!

My problem is that I had an accident in January which has not yet been settled. Until it is I can only claim for 2yrs NCB. My renewal premium was £1,300 (through Highway Insurance).

Most quotes were £2,000+ which are just crazy prices. Elephant and Admiral were both just over £900. Maybe I haven't read the small print before but I was just a little put off by the line "Please note - if you make a claim for loss or damage to your car, we will only pay the cost of replacing the parts needed for the car to meet the manufacturer's standard specification. The modifications themselves are not insured." What is the point of insuring them then?

The winner though was A-Plan. It is really worth you guys trying them - £789 for 33yr old in Greater London and 2 yrs NCB sounds pretty good to me. All mods were declared. They also said that when my claim is settled I will get a refund of approx £200 as I will have proof of 9yrs NCB.

Nice one! APlan really are good. I'm 27 with 3yrs no claims living in Herts and they quoted me £860. However that's to change my current policy for the Puma to a CV8, an additional £430. He seemed to think he could save me a bit more if he shopped around and got a totally new policy for me but since I'm part way in I decided to stick with it and build my NCB quicker. I really like the fact they seem to actually know what they are talking about rather than being bored, high turnover callcentre staff.
The Jap specialist guy was very helpful when I was scoping out insurance quotes on modified import skylines too.

Nice one GSI, however, if you do a search on this forum there were a few threads regarding insurance Co's only giving a max of 5yrs NCB! Worth a check I think!
I'm with A-Plan having tried all the rest &, don't know wether this is the same with all insurance Co's, but I'm insured to go to Eire on Oct...all in with the premium of £519 for me with 5yrs NCB, 53, garaged, 6K miles + tracker!

Currently with Elephant with an RX8 and that's £490 a year. Quote for a VXR of eth same age (54 plate) and miles (20k) is £602!!! However, if mods get added, I'll probably have to switch. That's if the dealer actually comes true and shows me a car! They say they've sourced a 54 plate VXR for me but I'll believe it when I see it...

Would be cool, to have a list of what everyone is paying, and the various bibs and bobs along the way, so we can keep the insurance company's honest and competitive on price. There just seems at times great variance in pricing, which is all over the shop.
