964 wheel set up
Discussion
16's or 17's? Lower springs ? any reason to spend £1000 on new wheels? I have great original 16's on my 964. But everyone says stick on 17's and lower it by 30 mm. It will corner much better. Altho it is a little light at the front at speed around corners, would I get the same benifit If I lowered it, keep the original wheels and put my £1000 to a great alignment set up and new tyres??? 964 boys and girls what is the way forward
Will certainly look tons better with 17's and lowered, and will have less body roll through the twisty bits. If it's lowered and set up properly it will be money well spent IMO. YOu will suffer a firmer ride though and notice tramlining on poor surfaces.
Are you intending to track your car or do you already?

17's will be no trouble, you shouldn't get any tramlining, you probably will with 18's though, I just live with it.
Mines down to RS+5mm height, and it doesn't really solve any issues, if you want sharper handling, then lower it, stiffen it, and add a stiffer rear anti-roll bar, preferably an ajustable type, then get the geometry rest for more negative camber and a bit more toe, you might also consider a strut brace for more front ridigty.

Lowering I can see, but how do the 17s help? Just the slightly stiffer sidewall for better handling? For the track, I'd invest in a 2nd set of 16s with sticky tires, and a thorough wheel alignment by someone who _knows what they're doing_.
I run Bridgestone S02s on the Seven, and they suck for it, although they are extremely benign to slide around on. They might be better on a heavy car, though.
