What have Porsche done to cure this problem? anyone Know? The manual says the seal must be fitted dry? is this the Germans being (how do you spell padantic?) is a modification available? how many are failing? is this away of selling exstended warranty?anyone on the site working at Dealers with inside info?

You'll find more than you need if you search, I think the 996 guys must be getting sick of hits due to the number of " I haven't had any problems lately" threads that sprang up a while ago.

Its a oil leak,but only a small amount at most,nobody likes calling cards on their drive,i think this has been all hyped IMHO,just check your oil level occasionally and any major puddles on the drive.Get it changed when you do the clutch,from what i gather a lot leak again when they are replaced.I do stand to be corrected if this isn't true.

there is a revised eal that is fitted now but generally its the intermediate shaft housing seal that leaks. They dont seem to have been able to cure the leeks. if the rear main seal leaks its generally just a sweat but if the intermediate shaft seal laks its more a drip of oil
