Service recommendation needed please
Discussion
Hello all,
I have just inherited (long story, quite dull) an '89 3.2 Carrera. It's basically running OK, although it has a dead fan that I'll need to replace at some point. It is running very rich though, and there's no doubt that it needs a good service from someone who knows what to expect from these cars.
So, can anyone recommend a good Porsche specialist within easy reach of the Kingston-Upon-Thames area? Not too expensive please, but the most important thing is that they'll do a good job.
Thanks,
Stuart

Hi Stuart
I am based in Surbiton, depending on how much money you want to spend maintaining your car, there are a couple of options. Camtune have already been mentioned, there is also GT 1 in Chertsey. As with all specialists you can get good or bad experiences depending on who works on your car and what is wrong with it. I try not to use them anymore and try do do most of the work myself. When I do need specialist help my car goes down to Poole to Jon Mitchell. It seems like a long way but once every couple of years for a trusted opinion and work is worth it for me. Its easy to fall into a bottomless pit with these cars, so the better informed you are the better.

I've been using GT-One for the last 5 years or so, for my 930 and 964RS. They seem to know their stuff, particularly on the older cars. I like the fact that they are a small outfit, and you always get to deal directly with one of the two owners (Peter or Craig), who also do a lot of work on customer cars themselves. I wouldn't say they are cheap, but I think their rates are in line with other independants.

Is the car going to feature in Classic & Sportscar?

Not sure yet. It is a car which has featured in the magazine in the past in the running reports, and at some point in the next 12 months it needs to be sold. It might get a running report at some point if we keep it for a while (ultimately the editor's call though). The car is guard's red and carries a C&SC sticker in the back window. If you see it around Kingston, wave...
What it urgently needs though is a good service, hence the question. Whilst this is a company owned vehicle, every other car on the fleet that we write about in the magazine is privately owned, and all servicing etc. is paid for with proper money. That's why I'm after a good job and, if possible, a good price!
