I'm actively looking for an RS2, however on Sunday I happened to be passing West London Audi and spotted a Y-Plate RS4 parked on their forecourt. Brilliant black with black/silver leather interior. I had to stop and have a look. Conclusion? It was lovely. If it drives half as good as it looks (and I'm sure it does) then must be a top car.

Ever since I keep thinking about the RS4 and trying to work out if I can stretch to one instead of an RS2. Consequently my RS2 hunt has become a bit half-hearted.

Question is, how does an RS4 at ~£35k (and on the steep part of the depreciation curve) compare with an RS2 at ~£15k (and largely done its depreciating)?

Is the extra money worth it, or will the RS2 give me what I'm looking for, for less than half the money?

I should point out I haven't driven either yet. I'm a bit busy at the mo so want to come up with a shortlist and only drive cars I'm seriously considering.

I reckon the only way is to drive one of each and see which you like the best. It also depends exactly what is important to you - the RS2 won't lose you any money (it might even appreciate ).

RS2 is a lighter, and some might argue a purer performance car (it was a no-holds barred attempt at producing something ground-breaking). However it is smaller than an RS4 (if carrying capacity is important).

Performance of the two is very similar, although the unrestricted RS2 will leave a standard RS4 over 155mph.

And if you're after something a bit different, much rarer and with a Porsche badge its an easy choice.

You didn't think I'd remain unbiased did you?
