This may have been done to death previously, but I cannot find anything on the forums (or is that fora) about this:

I assume that all 996 spoilers raise at the same time - up at 75mph and down at 35mph - different to the 993s which seem to come up and down at much lower speeds.

What strikes me is that this is somewhat of an anomaly given that the speed limit in the UK is (at best) 70mph. Is it not a give away then? I mean, any 996 with a spoiler up has, by definition, at some stage, exceeded the speed limit by at least 5mph. Ok, I know it is not much, but it is still breaking the law - especially if you are in a 60mph limit with no motorways for miles around.

Has anyone actually remapped the 996 so that the spoiler raises and lowers at lower speeds?

Just a thought.

That's why there is a button so you can (say) you raised it manually!

The spoiler can be manually raised at any speed with the switch in the footwell. As long as you are aware cop can't use the fact that it's raised against you

there is a tutorial on renntech showing you how to move the spoiler switch up on to the dashboard.

Have always thought that would be good. Get pulled over by plod for having an erect spoiler in a 30 zone, only to be able to demonstrate it moving up and down via a push of a button on the dash. Very neat laugh

How about this, when reviewing the Gallardo:

Jeremy Clarkson said:
The spoiler, for instance, rises from the tail when your speed climbs past 80mph. And unlike any other car with this feature there's no override button. So if it's up it's a case of: "Hey, everyone, look at me. I'm speeding."

Could you post said tutorial up here please, if you've got it to hand?

(I'm not being lazy, for some reason Renntech never send me an email when i try and sign up)

Do you really think plod knows about the spoiler going up at over 75mph?

Like the posts - thanks.

No, I don't think plod will be teribly interested - just hypothesising really. Like the idea of rewiring the switch (I managed to get onto the Renntech site in seconds - a very clear explanation indeed - a definite project for the near future!).

I knew about the switch in the footwell - in the first week of having the car I saw a father in the car behind explaining to his son that the spoiler lifted up - being the proud owner, I was keen to show off, leaned down to the footwell to press the "Kings Road" switch and nearly drove into the car in front. A salutory, humbling, and somewhat embarrassing experience to say the least!!!

My 996tt has the button on dash beside the sat nav under the rear wiper switch, came from the factory with it, if plod didn't know it came up at 75mph, he does now.

Oops - let it out the bag. Think they maybe too busy trying to catch Gallardos though - they are REALLY breaking the law in comparison (definitley over 10%). What about the Veyron? Thought I saw one with a spoiler up on Top Gear.

Between the Gallardo and Veyron lot, I think we are pretty safe!
