I have an Arai Condor Helmet that conforms to ECE22-05 (brand new), however I just found out that the interior isn't fire resistant. Is this still ok for use on track days in a car?

thanks in advance

Depends if you want to risk your face burning off.

Don't stint on helmets, just get the best you can afford.

Oh, and welcome to PH

I believe it is, and chances are the clothes you are wearing are not fireproof and they will burn before the helmet does.

I've never seen any formal rules concerning helmets at a track day. The general criteria seems to be that they should be (or at least look) late 20th century and be on your head before leaving the pits.

I know a lot of people say don't scrimp on your lid but everybody has a budget and you have to look at the return on your spend. How much safer are you in a brand new FIA approved carbon fibre Schumacher Replica thing than a half decent bike helmet? For the difference in cash you could by better brakes or some instruction that may prevent the rolling fireball of death in the first place. Possibly a better return on your money. Your head, your call.

For a track day it is fine, I used my Roof helmet, But i'd be inclined to go for an open face one if I was to make a habbit out of doing them.
We are strict on covering arms and legs (best not to use man made fibres, Cotton has better fire resistant properties!)

Thanks for the replies - I just bought it and it cost £200 so whilst not the FIA Schumacher model it also isnt the budget £60 model. Its a good point about clothes not being fireproof - It fits well and I'll stick with it

Getting OT, but at Brands yesterday they said you didn't need to cover arms in tintops. That was a first for me!

Didn't have to at Bedford last week either. (I have no idea if this is routine at Bedford.)
