Grrr!!!

Three times this week I've had the misfortune of meeting with the No. 43 bus that goes along the route I take to work from my house.

Now this isn't usually a problem, however three times I've had to screech to a halt as the corner we've met on is blind, and just about ok for two cars to pass safely but not a bus doing 30!

This is the problem, and a couple of times I've had to mount the kerb (bashing my alloys in the process) in order to not hit the speeding bus. Nearly all the times the bus is over the white hashed line as it can't get round without doing so, yet they insist in hitting that corner like bloody Colin McRae!

Now, I can let it lie usually, but this morning they really scared me.

I had passed going the other way a father with a 'tug-along' bike with his child on the back, and then a little further back, their mother. She wasn't going quickly and she was just in the right spot for someone whistling round that corner (blind remember). As I mentioned, Colin McBus had just swerved to miss me, and despite my flashing and waving, I saw a puff of black smoke of acceleration, and I just closed my eyes hoping and praying she didn't get clobbered...

I should have gone back to check, but I though I'd only end up ripping a new arsehole for the bus driver (I've done this before after hitting the kerb and then quickly spinning round and going after him).

Thing is, I know if you write a complaint to the Bus Company nothing happens, so how do you make an official complaint?

Complain to the bus company, copy to the MD and potentially to your MP as well.

Open letter to the local rag?

I don't know Bristol at all. Are the buses run by Stagecoach? Do they have a Local Authority tie in? I'd be pretty sure they receive a LA subsidy, so maybe give the council offices a call and ask the switchboard who deals with the bus services for that area.

Really not sure of the anser on this one, but a few phone calls should at least point you in the right direction.

Frankly I'd imagine your wasting your time. The buses are run by the First Group and they get huge amounts of flak (deserved) about their service, their quality and pretty well everything else that they do (their influx on non English speaking drivers has been fun...) but it doesn't seem to make any difference at all.

If you want to give it a go, write to them, including the MD as suggested above, but also make a complaint to the Police if they have forced you off the road without stopping.

They seem to be one of those companies that just don't care and I think you're probably banging your head against a brick wall...

Sorry....
