Seems he is planning to retire from F1 and actually "Race" and Shock "compete" in another form of Motorsport. The win at Monaco in 96 was brilliant tho'.

He hasn't been in F1 for years (unless as a test driver, of course).

Didn't he reitre from testing about 4 or 5 years ago???

His golden handshake was a gift of a Toyota F1 car, IIRC.

Would've gone for the Rolex myself, running the F1 car must put a hefty dent in his pension funds...

In 96/97(?) the Ligier was finally becoming a fast car, and he was a regular front runner. But then the Canadian GP leg-breaking shunt meant the momentum was lost. It was a real shame, as he had always drawn the short straw and things were looking great.

Contrary to common belief, the Monaco win was no fluke - he was the only person actually overtaking other people for position on track. It was an extremely good drive. Just a shame all the others DNF'd after he had overtaken them!
