Tuscan Nuts ... and bolts
Discussion
Hi Guys....
Looking for a little help with my big bag of bits...
For anyone thats not aware I bought a tuscan tub and chassis, with no running gear and very little else.
Im new to this restoration lark, so Im sorry if these are stupid questions, but....
Ive collected a number of items that were missing and now want to do a dry fit of what I have to give me a better idea of what Ive still got missing. What size bolts do I need to bolt the rose joints to the chassis?
Where they metric or UNF on the rest of the car?
..and what type of bolt? nut etc,
or was it a case of whatever was to hand at the factory...mixed bag of allsorts?
Is it worth getting stainless?
Also any really odd sizes I should be looking at for the rest of the car?
The 4 main bolts that hold the cage to the chassis - are these special or an off the shelf size?
What do the diff mounts look like and was their more than one type?
I have the main one, but believe I need 2 smaller brackets??
Also does anyone have a diagram/some photos of how these wishbones/rose joints/rear uprights/bushes go together?
Thanks Jon

Jon - can I suggest that you come along to Oulton on 7th October with a digital camera and a notebook. It would probably be quicker and easier to take a thousand photos and ask questions there.
Bolts - avoid stainless and go for high tensile carbon steel marked 8.8 on the heads. Most of the suspension bolts are allen/socket cap.
From memory the bolts that go through the rose joints are UNF but I'm afraid I can't remember the diameter. Suspension pick up points vary on the car at the back, so length of bolt could vary.
Diff mounts - again, easiest if you take photos - my spaers are tucked away in the truck at the moment.
By the way - those inner wheel arches on your original shell looked fine to me -just needed a bit of glassing up, but really not bad at all! Did you ditch the shell or keep it?

I have got a load of photos, but as you say maybe I should be bringing a notebook as well , dont always like asking too many questions on race days as you guys have enough on your plate
I will be at Oulton on the 7th - camera and notebook in hand so if anyone has five minutes to spare?
As for the shell, I found a better one. The old one is waiting for me to strip the last few bits off and then its going on ebay as I need the space, or I would swop it for some missing bits if anyone wanted it, either way its got to go.
Thanks Jon

Jon feel free to wander round my car with note book and tape measure, although if things get hectic you may be passed a spanner.
Saturday will probablybe a bit hectic in the morning as its qually and race before lunch but after th race i'll be in no hurry to get the car straight back in the trailer..

Willie Tvrolet has just emailed me a load of pictures of his chassis without the body which does give good visibility to stuff that gets hidden once the body and engine go in. So I have a better idea of the task ahead and what Im missing.
Thanks for the offer Phil, I will come back to you once Im a little further on with the chassis and rebuild. I may need a dry sump tank, but money is tight and its being spent on the main items first. A wheel on each corner would be a start

In my view, you need a huuuuuge great whopping big bhp powerplant to go in mate, thats a main item!
