Help- new style ignition switch

Can you help

Just bought a new style (newer than my 5 year old one) ignition switch from the factory. The build cd shows wiring going to terminasla 1,2 etc however my new version has terminals marked 30 58 etc. Can any tell the correct wiring.

If not, couldn't you just work it out with a multimeter?

Red is permanent live from battery, white is the switched 12V and white/red is the starter relay feed

This will get me started only problem is that the old lucas switch has more terminals. 2 Brown (direct from battery) 2 white ( aircon , fuel pump)and the white pink for ignition. Also have a couple of other wired in as well!

How many terminals does it have?
How many switch positions are there? i.e. is there an aux. position?
What are the terminal numbers?

Just checked the switch on mine. It is the old lucas switch with a wiring loom from the same vintage as your car.

There are five connectors going in to the switch.The connectors have:
1 brown wire
2 brown wires
2 white wires
2 white wires
1 white/red wire


Despite the fact that there are 5 connectors, the spades that the two with brown wires connect to are the same switch terminal, same for the white wires. With the white/red connecting to the starter position on the switch.

If you have more wires than that, then you must have modified the loom yourself, so you should know were the wires go.

If you have a separate starter button, all you need to worry about is that the browns are on the same terminal, and the whites connect to another terminal that is continuous when the key is in the run position. You can find out which terminals those are by using a multimeter.

New switch does not have 1, 2 (30, 50 etc)and has single connectors. Using your Bosch codes I have sorted it but needed to combine the 2 white and the 2 brown into a single spade connector each.

Hi mate,

Sorry, late to this thread but you're right. The factory loom comes with both brown and white wires crimped into a single connector (respectively). Brown is feed, white ign live and red/white starter.
