Turbo Schmurbo
Discussion
Who are the best people to carry out ECU upgrades to 996 Turbo? Seem to remember a company beginning with D that can carry out the upgrade without the OPC's being able to tell. I'm thinking of returning to the fold and a nice big fat Turbo is starting to appeal, and rather than pay a premium for an X50 I thought I'd investigate the chip route...
DMS Automotive perhaps? Here's a link www.dmsautomotive.com/index.asp?upid=16&msid=3

Do some search a ALOT of reading throughout the Porsche magazines and forums such as Rennlist, PCGB, Rennlist, here, etc. before taking the plunge, remember this is not a VW Beetle and a new engine costs £25 000 (no, I'm not mistaken it's TWENTY FIVE THOU).
This has been discussed before and even if you take the cheap route you know there's the other way of doing this like Ruf, Manthey, Techart, RS Tuning, FVD, etc who company who do nothing but Porsches some with race proven reliability and offer complete PACKAGES (ECU, exhaust, turbos, etc) developed by Porsche specialist programmers on engine dynos and not in a computer screen.
First get the data and THEN make the choice!

Hi Beaver - what makes you want such a lardy-mobile after the GT3?! I've had one for a few years now and it isn't such a bad old thing - had it chipped, exhausted etc etc. nearly three years ago now and it seems to have stood up to the whole experience plus a bunch of track days etc. - so can make a few recommendations, drop me an email!
Hi i have a 2001 996 tt and have one of the dms ecu upgrades and it's a gem no problems what so ever just pulls like a train i have'nt even had a sports exhaust fitted yet so it's still nice and suttle if that's what your after, getting a fabspeed system fitted next week so should pull even harder. i did have to fit uprated diverter valves after the ecu though as they started to fail with the extra boost (now running 0.9 bar) go for it you'll love it
I have 'DMS' upgrade on my tt..no problems yet and much more grunt than before.Importantly the car is as easy to drive normally as it was before..not lumpy or erratic at lower speeds.I know a couple of people who have had 'lesser' turbo diesel cars upgraded by DMS as well and the improvement has been substantial.

Hi Charlie, it's been a long time since I last saw you at Cadwell Park...
Just fancied a bit of comfort with shove in the back acceleration, and a few creature comforts. Must be getting old...

The DMS'd car I drove, was much more like a GT2 in it's delivery - much stronger, and more sustained at higher revs. Great upgrade. I think their standard ECU ugrade gives around 500 ish bhp, with good torque increases - I've driven a car 'before' and 'after', and was impressed........name said:

Hi Martin - yep that was a while ago, when you had that F355, great car I'm really coming to regret ever getting rid of mine, still such is life, I think I'm stuck with the porker for now as it's got 4 seats and I have a whipper snapper on the way.......
Ray West did my 996TT and has always supported it ever since, I can't praise him enough - and he did teach Rob at DMS too!! if you want any more info please PM me - Charlie
