By we I mean my wife, she was coming along the lane which is barely wide enough for 1 car and up to a slightly unsighted bend. Shes come round this bend at no more than 25mph and a TW@T has been coming in the other direction FAST. Squell, bang, the cars hit my wifes car gets flung back into a hedge he gets out comes over and says" I was only doing 50" Pics will follow but this brand new company BMW is almost certainly written off and shes in bad pain on her chest wheres shes been hit by the air bag and has a badly bashed hand. I am not happy and very scared. Luckily no-one seriously injured but everyone in bad shock! Not a happy bunny right now. As i say pics will follow!

Get your wife checked out at the local A&E. Get the hand treated. Get the police involved.

Did the Police attend and document everything? If not try to get back there and take some pictures before the scene changes.

Come to think of it - you're obliged to call the police if somebody is injured - but they won't turn up at all if nobody is injured.

sorry to hear this.

Wife SHOULD go to hospital - tell her its better for a couple of hours than never being able to use her hand again!

Get those medical injuries recorded now in case a problem develops later on and she needs to claim fron an insurance company. Otherwise they will do anything to say it was a gardening injury or not related to the accident. Or see the GP in the morning.

yes

Some injuries might not show up until the day after - keep a close eye on her.

WEVE JUST HAD A BIG CAR CRASH.

Glad that you are OK'ish, but being pedantic for a moment, if you are on here posting, and the missus is in two minds about wether to go to the hospital or not, it was hardly a BIG crash.

I have had a few minor crunches, even rolled a two week old Cavalier and it was written off, but still wouldnt consider it a big crash unless I was in intensive care or dead. Anything else is just a bit of a laugh really. Mind you, whenever I do crash, I usually have a grin on my face and the giggles, which is no good when you've hurt yourself.

Anyway, as I said, glad you're OK after your minor prang.

If the missus has hurt her hand, she ought to get it looked at really.

You forget who this chap is.

Are you going to sue the other driver?

Big Cheese doesnt do amateur dramatics, but if he did, they'd probably be the best amateur dramatics in the world.

" I was only doing 50"

I live in an area where there's lots of lanes like that and a guy was killed recently by a van that came around a bend at 50 as he pulled out of a side road.
Interesting thing was, that Police said the *maximum* possible visiblity was 35M, and in practice was less that that, but yet no blame was laid at the door of the van driver because he was under the speed limit.

The lanes scare the hell out of me, but my wife insists on using them all the time.

If your wife goes to the doctors or hospital she'll get more cash in compensation for her injuries.

Worth doing.

I had exactly this happen to me. I don't care what anyone says. If you've just had an accident (esp non fault), where someone hits youat fifty, and you're doing 25, that's a seventy five mile an hour accident. You can't garantee to walk away from one of those.

In the days before all of the safety enhancements, you couldn't garantee to walk away from a 35 mile an hour accident. (For reference I'm on about soild impacts like 200 year old trees).

Sounds pretty bad to me, hope you're both going to be allright.

Don't forget though, it's not the speed, we'd never get anywhere at 30 miles per hour. In fact to guarantee survival in the event of impact, I'd estimate that everybody would have to drive at less than fifteen miles per hour, on standard roads. It seems that in this case the stupididty of the other driver was to blame.

It seems that he had chosen to drive in such a way as to be unable to stop within the distance that he was able to judge the changing circumstance. Make sure you get the police to evaluate the scene, and you are unlikely to have any problems with insurance.

If your wife doesn't go to Hospital... Surely she will not be part of the so called Statistic... as published the last couple of days...

The Police don't seem to take notice of accidents where the parties do not go to hospital.. and are prepared to ignore them or consider tey don't exist.

Stand firm, tell the Police that you would like an investigation into the accident, as an injured party was (hospitalised) or went there... And you feel that there should be a prosecution of some sort for the guilty third party (other driver)

Hope you are all OK.. Try in the BiB forum for the best advice...!
