Does anyone have H&R springs on their 993, ideally with Bilstein HD's? Did you have stock suspension before, or did you change from M033 or M030?

Opinions please...

many years ago I had a 993 carrera 2S for a weekend to try out. It had sports suspension. It was oversprung and under damped, bloody horrible. A set of h&r springs I reckon would be a great improvement (30mm lower)

I must confess this sort of statement gets my billy goat gruff !!

Over sprung - under damped .. !! Could it be the shocks were knackered ? So why would a set of H&Rs improve things ??

I have the HD's and H&R springs on my car, originally on M033.

Massive improvement and would recommend.

No the car was 6 months old with bugger all mileage. My opinion Porsche had fitted weigh to higher spring rate. h&r springs may have soughted out the problem as they probably are a lower poundage. they work well on my 3.6 turbo.

Anyone got comparative costs of suspension renewal options for the 993?

Mine's up for new suspension and I want to upgrade... heard elusive stories here about Porsche OEM sports suspension kit available for £400 or something (?) but if it's badly matched and will make me slower then I'd rather not bother...

(given my current 80k mileage Monroe OEM dampers though, anything would probably be better! )

1. M033 dampers and springs, £400+vat (though i think that deal has now run out), or £550
2. H&R springs (half way between M033 and M030) and Bilstein HD dampers, £775
3. M033 springs with Bilstein HD dampers, £850
4. M030 springs with Bilstein HD's, £850
5. M030 dampers and springs and anti-roll bars, £1250
6. H&R coilovers, £1250
7. PSS-9 kit, £1550

I was going for option 2 or 3 or 4, though i've just been offered a deal on 99RS shocks and springs (thanks clubsport)

option 5.... works very well,

have that right now and the set up (done properly) makes full use of the combo and it all work perfectly......

you need to match all 3...... if you don't track or no fast driving then you can get away with just bits added on

choices 3,4,5 should work very well. but i have a friend who had KW suspension kit on his 993 C4 cabriolet, and he says it is great, and fully adjustable when he needs to bring to the track.

i am installing mine next week

Go for the Turbo set-up. I think that's option 4 on your list. M030 springs with Bilstein HDs. Thats my set-up and its great

The turbo set up is different again, and has thicker roll bars, particulary on the back to combat understeer.

Has anyone tried this?

www.jzmachtech.co.uk/shells/tuning_product.php?porsche=993&model=993%20C2&engine=3.6&year=1997&id=7706

Looks pricey compared to the options listed earlier in this thread.

Well i should be receiving some springs tomorrow morning (second hand, thanks PP!) but having been out tonight in 993_C2S's car (which i helped fit HD's and M033's to a couple of months ago) i think it's not enough.

Now the question is, do i go for M030 or H&R? Think i'm leaning to H&R, haven't heard a bad word about them yet, and i think they are slightly softer than the M030 (which i remember finding very stiff on another friend's car).

Bilstein HD + H&R = happy verysideways?

Here's hoping...

Assume you mean this one:

JZM said:
Engineered for street and occasional track use, H&R Coil-Overs feature a fully-threaded shock body (not an imitation sleeve-over) that allows you to precisely dial in height adjustment to achieve optimum weight transfer, or simply get the aggressive look you've been looking for. Featuring H&R's exclusive dynamic damper technology, each shock is engineered to work in harmony with a progressive-rate spring, together creating a finely-tuned suspension system.

I'm booked in with JZM to get this fitted in a couple of week's time.

Fingers crossed.
