Alonso vs Renault
Discussion
According to the Daily Mail today Alonso, in a Spanish media interview, has claimed that Renault want to be constructors champions but not see him, as Driver Champion, walk off to McL with the number 1 on his car.
If true it sounds like the lad is cracking up and has all but abandoned hopes of retaining his title.
It's a funny old world ...

I wonder...
If Alonso wins the Drivers' championship and Renault wins the Constructors' championship...
What numbers would the McLarens and Renaults wear?
Which garages would they get?
Would McLaren derive any fiscal benefit (under the Concorde Agreement) from Alonso's success?

If it stays as it is
McLaren would have 1 & 2
Renault would have 3 & 4
Ferrari would have 5 & 6
Champion constructor chooses their pit box (usually the first, rest follow in Championship positions).

Thanks, FWD. That confirms what I thought, but wasn't sure about (wrt Renault's numbers, and the pit box being assigned to the constructor rather than driver)
So it would seem strange if Renault were anything less than completely supportive of Alonso, n'est pas?

Would Ferrari not revert to their traditional #'s 27 and 28, as they have done in the past when they didn't have 1 and 2???
Or would those numbers be reserved for Direxiv, Prodrive or the other supposed entrants in 2007/2008?

There are only 22 cars on the grid, they only use consecutive numbers these days, with the exception of 13, they go 1-12 then 14-23.
Then when Prodrive enter to make the maximum of 24 cars allowed in F1 they'll only go up to 25.
PS. McLaren have also used the 27/28 numbers as well in the 1990's. Ferrari only used those numbers in the 80-90's. I'd think of them more famously with the 11 & 12 on them
