Anyone see the X-games 12 highlights last night? Being an extreme sports fan it's a must see for me, but I was blown away with the Freestyle Moto-X best trick comp. Given they only learned backflips about 4 years ago, Travis Pastrana was mental to go for his double backflip. The whole place went crazy, it was awesome viewing. Big respect to the guy, if he'd got that wrong there's no way he'd of been getting up.

Absolute nutcase. I remember when it was first done by a bloke on a mountain bike, I forget his name now but he rides for Kona. You'd need grande testiclé to attempt that.

Yeah, his name was Paul someone, I forget his second name, he was a BMX'er, I was at Bike 98 when he pulled it off over the doubles, biggest problem was I was due to follow him over the doubles, I didn't even try, think I just put in a cross up and left

Go check out our website www.alpinestars.com

We have loads of crazy footage from the Xgames as well as a host of other inside scoops in the world of two and four wheels. Should be pretty interesting for any discerning pistonhead!

Cheers

Bike 98 thumbup I got to meet quite a few of the team MBUK/Specialized boys there. Also met Missy Giove, she was strangely attractive. It's a crying shame she's a lesbian really.

Apparently Travis Pastrana then also went on to win the new Rally event in the X Games. Not seen it yet so dunno if he really deserved it, and Colin MacRae was second despite rolling his car on the final corner. Kinda suggests he would've won by miles if he'd held it together. Should be good viewing though.

Awesome. I loved the (panicked?) revving on the second loop... like that would help!

Hey E4UAN, if you're into the whole action sport thing, then I'd highly recommend the Nitro Circus trilogy. Some amazing footage...Travis backflipping into the Grand Canyon is ridiculous. Great cinematography.

Yeah she was pretty nice, I got to go to the after show party and met her there, she was a bit of a nutter.
I was on the Sports Division/ Saracen team there in the hideous yellow and blue strips

Watched it last night, what a bunch of lunatics! A backflip on a bike is stupid enough but a double backflip must take some serious balls.

Anybody else see him apologising to his mum afterwards? yikes

The thing that impresses me about these sort of stunts (particularly the back-flip) is that there's no "working up to it". I mean, if you're doing jumps and stuff then you can start off little and build it up. But if you're going for the back-flip then that's it: all or nothing on try 1.

saw it myself - very impressed, but thought that the guy who did a flip and held onto the bike using the tips of his toes on the handlebars (whilst upsidedown) was equally impressive yikes

Thanks HCMH, I'll look it up. The whole freestyle motot-X thing's going so crazy now it's really gonna start getting too dangerous. Don't know what's next, switch-up double flips or even front flips? Who knows.

No worries. I know what you're saying about progression, a few years back everyone thought the backflip was for push bikes. Now Travis has set the bar very, very high with the double. Nate Adams, Travis, Bilko etc have done the 360 back but no one has done a true 360 and landed it. One to watch out for.

I think progression will come when they can make a super light freestyle bike...they're pretty heavy still.
