Anyone got any advice on swapping an RB26DETT from a skyline gtr into a celica GT4?
Dont say "DONT", i wanna do it!
Even if it converts it to rear drive (booooo) id still go for it.
Easier to extarct the power from that lump and has a six cylinder soundtrack!

Deltaf, you seem to answer most engine questions, why ask us??

Why not use the twin-turbo Supra engine, an extra 400cc to play with? (Alright, I know the Skyline can develop more power unltimately but do you really want 1000bhp?)

Er yes mate!
I was asking simply cos ive not seen the dimesions of the RB26Dett engine and it may not actually fit into the engine bay.
If it were possible i can easily do all the work myself, but i just wanted to know hat others thought/knew.

Having seen a 5.7 Litre Chevy engine in an Austin Metro I would say that anything is possible!

It's just a question of how much work you're willing to put in. In this case the entire front half of the car had been replaced with a tubular steel spaceframe, and a clamshell bonnet had been made from welding wings & bonnet together.

I would consider the following:
1. Exhaust system - probably need to have a special one made.
2. Connecting the drivetrain - again, you'll probably need some one off mechanical bits.
3. What sort of engine management and sensors will be required?

Judging by the latest clarkson vid the properly tuned skyline engine is a mighty lump, it's also bloody big.

I'd agree that it can be done (look at that V8 focus kit! ) But it's going to be the mother of all pojects.

You aren't gunning for a front cover slot on max power are you?

I think you'll have to rebuild the car ground-up. If I was you I'd be looking for a custom chasis that you can weld the shell to!

Have you considered rear engine rear wheel drive? Fit the recipient shell with a VERY sturdy roll cage and then custom-make mounting brackets to fit the engine.

Cut out and reinforce the area beneath the rear seats, drop a (much uprated) 'box and diff from an MR2 in the resulting hole. What you have is effectively a jap-sourced Metro 6R4.

Not only do you get the power, you get mid engined handling (may take a few minutes to set up properly...) and I think you'll be able to hear the engine a bit easier...

i thought the whole point of this conversion was to get rid of the mr2 engine!
main problems will be welding a proper sized transmission tunnel,finding out if the rear diff etc will take the extra power,but the main one is finding room for an inline twin blower 6pot with all its bits.
you might end up sitting a bit further back in the car.
nothing is impossible if you can tip enough time and money on it(time mostly)

Is the celica wide enough to get a transmission tunnel in there? Mind you, a 4x4 GT4 should manage a skyline prop and rear diff.

Mounting them may be fun.

p.s, I only suggested the MR2 'box as an example until I could think of another cheap mid/rear gearbox.

Looks plenty wide nuff to slot it in but may sit very far back in the chassis.......ideas ideas...

Engine height could be an issue, Nissan engines tend to be quite tall, a Supra lump may be better here... Supras were once Celica's with bigger engines... but then if you loose the front diff etc from a Skyline powertrain you may get some of the height out. Dropping this engine in a S13/14/15 (Silvia/200SX) would be a lot easier, rwd is definitely the way forward!!!

Lol not so certain about that mate...in the wet i have extremo grip...great for the traffic light Gp while all around are spinning their wheels, im powering away into the distance...but gotta admit, i do like the idea of a 3.0, twin turbo celica!!!! Yummy!
