Went to the last round of this at Spa yesterday. A beautiful sunny October Sunday and, as ever, Spa is a fabulous location for motor racing. Sorry don’t have pics but had to tell you about the great racing. The BTCS is ahem… different! I was expecting to see a Belgian version of the British Touring Car Championship but they do things completely differently:

A) 2 x 90 min races with compulsory driver changes and refueling
B) A 64 car grid for race 1 and 54 starters for race 2!
C) 6 classes of “touring car” from club racers to full-blown silhouette prototypes
D) They allow FIA spec GT2 cars to run
E) 50kg penalty for any car that does a sub 2:30 lap in qualifying

A totally eclectic mix of race cars ranging from Toyota Yaris’s running in “Touring 1” to a pair of Ferrari 360 GTCs running in GT2 all on track at the same time. There was even a DTM Spec Audi entered! Overall honors were fought out between the “Touring 6” silhouettes and the GT2 cars, which seemed pretty evenly matched. It was quite strange seeing Renault Megan and Jag X-Type silhouettes mixing it with (and beating in some cases) Porsche 997 and Ferrari 360 GT2 cars!

Oh yeah race 1 was won by a Porsche 997 and race 2 by a Megan silhouette. The pair of Monroe Racing 360’s managed 7th and 51st in race 1 and 10th and retired lap 3 in race 2.

I would deffo recommend this next year for anyone who wants a weekend at Spa. You could do it back to back with a day at the Nurburgring.

No. I've been to lots of Belcar races and I'm going to one this weekend. That's the Belgian GT championship which has full blown GT racing. This is call the Belgian Touring Car Series BTCS:

ETA: I would compare Belcar more to British GT that Britcar. Unless of course you were comparing Britcar to BTCS.
