Hi Folks, I havent posted on this part of the forum before, just once or twice on the Porsche section, but thought I would give it a try as Ive noticed there is a fair presence of Aberdeen based folks posting now and again.

As the title suggests I am trying to line up some kind of lockup / garage / storage for my 993 over our chilly winter months in Aberdeen, and just wondered on off chance if anyone had any ideas.

Ideal would be somewhere in a fairly good part of town where I could 'forget' about the car, and maybe take it out once every 2 or 3 weeks for a spin.

Maybe a long shot, but thanks alot, Dave

Dave,

993's don't like to be left locked up, they want to be used!

But if you must, make sure you have some sort of trickle charger on the battery, otherwise you will find it flat when you come to take it out.

Have you considered trying one of those estate agenty type places

Granted I dont know aberdeen at all really but I was surprised to find some council lock ups in Glasgow were actually in decent area's and cost buttons (£17/wk springs to mind).

Outside that, small industrial units are usually quite cheap (again, in Glasgow but I'd imagine much the same would apply in Aberdeen). I found one in a secured compound with secuirty guard and cameras and access barrier security that would easily fit 2 cars length ways for £100/month.

Try the council Dave. I rented one before and it was in Bridge of Don. Not a bad garage for £22 a month. Its a bit of a pot luck though where you get allocated. You have to go in there personally and see what they have got available. Good luck.

daveinscotland : thanks that's very reasonable actually when I compare it to the £70 a month I pay for a parking space in a dump of a car park on riverview drive!

Dave,

Make sure you leave the handbrake OFF, or you might have a problem getting the car to move again !!
Also if you leave it for months I think it's recommneded to lower the tyre presures.
If you don't have power for a battery charger I'd either leave it disconected, or maybe check it starts ok every week.
Check antifreeze in the washer bottle etc.

.......

thanks for that. i got lined up with a garage a couple of streets from my pad, so ideal. planning on checkin on it once a week or so to turn it over. will bear in mind about the anti-freeze. well chuffed to have it off the road while the weather is crap, as i wanna keep the car in really good nick. roll on spring ! cheers, dave

Thinking on this also in Aberdeen. What sort of size we talking here, and any come with a light? Reason being, I wouldnt mind somewhere where I could get a bit of work done on the car in my spare time......
